If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

How do you know it's a he? Could be a she. Or gender fluid. Transphobe!

I read THEIR blog about Ched Evans and a few other bits, very interesting.

Fair. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a man just because few women are dumb enough to get caught at the criminal bar in their 30s/40s as I infer SB is, but quite right.

What was the take on good ol'Ched??

Doesn't seem unreasonable to me. What is unfair, is that she is disproportionately likely to get the help she needs with her addiction, mental illness and trauma.
So hang on a mo, she went on to commit a further offence???
Secondly, I find that you were genuinely remorseful following this event and, indeed, although it was against your bail conditions you contacted your partner to fully confess your guilt and your deep sorrow for what happened.

No, she didn't. Don't let not knowing what you are talking about stop you, mind.

Is doing something in violation of bail conditions not an offence? Just curious what it actually is.
P.S. I have no problem with the sentence.

It's an offence not to surrender (i.e. "skip bail") but not to breach conditions. You can be arrested for breaching bail conditions and there'd then be another bail hearing where you'd understandably be less likely to get bail.

Seems to me the judge is taking a bit/lot? of a gamble. If she doesn't re -offend in the 18 months (or again) and goes on to have a successful career as a heart surgeeon (they're a trifle rarer then your average employed nine-to fiver) his gamble will have paid off, and having had a son in law who had two heart transplants and a liver transplant and is still doing well and living a normal life I have reason to be thankful to such people). On the other side of the see-saw.....her history so far is hardly encouraging, and then there's the little matter of crime and punishment we call law which is supposed to apply to all regardless. Not easy...

I'd be v surprised if she ever became a doctor.

What do you mean by "is supposed to apply to all regardless"? Of what? Worth reading those sentencing remarks if you haven't to see exactly what the judge did take into account.

Indeed. A jail sentence in itself.

I particularly liked that the article included a picture of a bread knife in case wannabee barristers have never used one or forgotten what they look like!

Some interesting stuff on the dv/'cricket player' case there too

Oh just bail me your honour so I can do as I please because prufrock said I wouldn't be committing an offence by ignoring something you imposed on me.

I'm not sure she could get a job either. Completing the degree is one thing but the GMC don't tend to look fondly on alcohol abuse, drug abuse or being found guilty of stabbing someone. There'd be huge restrictions on her licence to practice. I'd guess her future would have to lie in research or medical education.

To be contradictory...
I know a surgeon who is not only a complete pisshead, but a heroin addict too, and has been convicted of ABH, drunk and disorderly, criminal damage, passing off, driving without insurance, threatening behaviour and assaulting a police officer... and that's just what I know about.
Incidentally he was President of the NUS at a university in the North West, could have been a politician, and was one of the most intelligent people I ever knew despite being a complete dickhead.

It took on all the hysterical shite about 'going back to the 70s' by allowing evidence from a previous lover.
Pointed out how narrow the conditions were to allow that and how it would be extremely difficult for them to be met in all but very exceptional circumstances. Was very interesting.
Might start reading it now I know that The Secret Footballer is Dave Kitson!

I'm Up North presently. Met an old friend of mine who I've not seen in decades. He's a lecturer at Lancaster and has taken me to a pub he's heard about near Penrith. We were waiting for my missus to detrain and get a taxi here, so asked for the menu. The young woman who came over (I'm assuming 'she' was) handed over the heavy duty board covered menus and with a straight face said (and I quote here as accurately as my memory allows) "I need to give you a trigger warning before you open the cover".
Pete and I looked at each other, and he (no doubt more used to the younger generations) asked "in what way?"
And, all serious like, she bent forward and almost whispered " It contains non-vegetarian items".
I'm sorry to say that Pete and I burst out laughing.

It was quite funny. And then the bar manager came over and asked us to leave because "we'd abused a member of his staff."

The world is going to shit.

As a "cough" impersonal observer,"cough" it might seem to me that this womamist/feminist (what an odd title to give oneself whilst preaching equality for all?) is absolutely hammering her own views home with an hydraulic jack-hammer and almost stating she'll rule the world, yet yon chappie shes's battling isn't allowed to voice an opinion? Bit of an unbalanced seesaw I'd think? Back in pre-nanny state days, she might have been told.......
And now apologies and retractions all round from the newspapers involved.

As Noelly G would say, don't believe the truth.
