Try buying a new PC/laptop without it on. You pay a heck of a lot more, usually with older specs to avoid it. Visaster is probably the worst operating system ever conceived

Somehow, in my somewhat confined little internet world I'm still managing okay with XP Pro. I realise it wouldn't do in a working world, but then, I'm retired.

yet - "visaster" does absolutely everything I need to do! you don't find me on here moaning about how vista is impossible to use and others giving me advice to download a shell to convert it to a usable interface!

and - why do i need a new laptop or PC?

what could i do with windows 8 that i can't currently do quite well enough?

When I had the misfortune to buy a laptop with Visaster on it, most of the time was spent with the blue screen of death and waiting for the RAM to cope with a stupidly memory hungry operating system. Add to that that a lot of software doesn't support Visaster anymore, and some never worked on it anyway. Windows 7 was a revelation, then they messed it up. Goodness knows what Windows 9 (due soon) is going to be like.

You might not need a new laptop, but folk do need new ones sometimes

People (like my Mum) drop them. Some, like mine a couple of years ago just stopped working and wasn't cost effective to repair. My media PC power supply died last year and I've not been able to find a replacement one, even from the distributor for the brand.

Anyway, no one uses laptops on commuter trains, there's barely space to breathe let alone play solitaire

Well, I need one as I often don't work from the same location...certainly not going to lug a desktop round with me...

Wife used to laugh at me spending time on a computer. I bought here a Notebook, then a Toshiba laptop. She now spends more time than I do on it and loves it.

... We are not all vicars, vicar.

I'd look well lugging a desktop around the country.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

And booting up Vista at security to prove it's not a bomb wouldn't make you popular!
