Workplace parking: pilot given go-ahead

Transport Minister Sadiq Khan has confirmed the go-ahead to a pilot workplace parking levy scheme which will come into force in Nottingham in 2012. The pilot scheme will see firms with more than 10 parking places for staff charged £250 for each, rising to £350 by 2014. Money from the scheme will go to the Council and will be ring-fenced for the proposed extension to Nottingham's tram network. The levy is expected to generate £100 over 10 years.

Councils in Milton Keynes, Cambridge and Oxford have expressed interest in adopting the scheme.

Another attack on car owners by the bully state! let folk who want to use trams pay for them like motorists pay for the use of their cars (through the nose I add).
Labour = Commies under another name, Tony Benn and his like are not finished yet!! The Russians will ownmore than Chelsea if this goes on!

£100 is hardly anything to get worked up about, is it?

Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Someones got to pay for all those guys in parliament to get an 11% pay rise. So shut up and pay the bill like the good cashcow you are.

Honestly, some people.

Not to mention that Sadiq Khans' massage chair has broken from overuse and he wants a new one.

I work in the transport industry and believe me there is a problem with car congestion that can't be solved by building more roads (I can post the studies that prove this). We do need to invest in alternatives. They take a number of forms - not just buses, trams and trains (all of which are attracting more users) but walking. cycling and educating people to use the car more sensibly. That especially applies to the 'busy' mothers in their ludicrously oversized vehicles clogging up roads around schools after a two minute, extremely walkable journey.

There are always going to be times when you have to use a car, that goes without saying, but there are other times you don't really need to if you're honest with yourselves.

Oh youre still allowed to have them. But age 4 they're taken to a large ringfenced area (Wales perhaps) which contains all the teachers.

I like your thinking but it would cost a fortune to get them all over. We make them walk to Wales.

We could combine the two. If, as we agree, we take them away at age 10 then by the time they get to Tehran they would be twelve. Lesser upkeep costs on the camp. Using the same logic we could release them at 23 knowing it would take them over a year to get back, again reducing the costs. A win-win in my book.

For once yes I did! In another thread we are debating how our wonderfull Socialist Goverment is sending troops of to war, wars some deem illegal. Now they want those who choose to use cars, work and pay to use cars along with all the other taxes we pay like non motorists to stump up for their great Social plan.
You never stop to worry why this country is in a worse state despite oil and gas revenues we blew than any premier league club?
Hell the rate we are going at we won't be able to afford electricity because when Blair came to power we should have had a nuke program imeadieatly started not sent out to endless enquiries and quango's, but hey Socialists cannot make decisions they need to consult! then fudge everything, then charge us all for their short comings and interference!

I assume that those companies that are located away from reasonable public transport will be exempt?

So hoboh let me get this straight.

Your opinion is based on the fact that hoodies ride on trams and that global warming is just a big hoax.

I am stunned by your ignorance. Stunned.
