Bugger me senseless. Just seen it on SSN, with a replay from the other end of the court, and it's not just the execution that makes it mind-boggling. If he meant to shape his body in such a way, the way that body shape disguises the direction of the shot is....well....Christ. What a shot.

To be able to execute that shot with such power and accuracy is astonishing. Most other players would take just getting it back over the net. Djokovic's reaction says it all.

I would have smashed myself in the balls trying to do that and ended up in a crumpled, wimpering heap in front of 25000 people pissing themselves laughing.

Even Djokovic had to have a wry smile.

Just happened across it after the NFL games were over. it was amazing. He hits it from ankle height too. best shot I've ever seen.

Whilst not decrying the shot for being brilliant, am I the only one to think it was a no lose gamble shot anyhow. In the 99 out of a 100 times that it probably wouldn't work, he'd have lost a point he was going to lose anyhow.

It's a bit like Steinsson's genius goal against Stoke last season.

But that's the point. It's the 1 occasion in 100 that it did work, so it's brilliant. I feel it's doing it a slight injustice, too. This ain't a fluke - he's gone for that, he's turned the racket slightly to place the ball on that part of the court. And, judging by his reaction after the point and what he's said post-match, he acknowledges this.

Definitely, you could also say most players would have given it up and so it shows determination as well as being a fantsastic bit of technique too. He tried something similar at match point agaisnt someone, Safin, I think and ballsed it up, and when you have no other shot, why not have a go! THough at least he meant it, I still reckon Steinsson was trying to cross!

Anyhow as for "of the century" I think we'll have to come back in 91 years and re-review...

Pah. Did Nicholas Bloody Parsons let that bother him, back in Norwich?

No. He didn't. And neither should you.

Simply the greatest of all time.

Would post a picture of him in his '15' jacket for mummy to seeth over but given Nadal's embarassing defeat I'll spare him.

Sure, he's the best tennis player of all time. No arguments from me there.

Don't think I'll ever like him though. That stunt with the '15' on the jacket was completely unacceptable, sponsor pressure or not.

As for this particular shot? Yes, it's great timing, skill etc, but essentially it's a lucky shot-to-nothing after getting himself into a bad position. There's a lot about his tennis that is much more impressive than his ability to pull off those.

Shame Rafa is still struggling with his various injuries; the sooner he's back at 100% the better.

So he's admiring his shots on the big screen replays tonight, as I've seen him do before. *shakes head*

He looks in good nick though, I think he could well take Del Potro in 3.

This coming from the Tiger-lover?

Fair dos, the Wimbledon thing was the first time I'd paid that much attention to federer (can't stand tennis) and he came across as a bit of a smug feck*
