Favourite Battle Scenes

Post by TANGODANCER » Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:19 pm

What are you favourite film battle scenes as in impressive filming?

Thought Kingdom of Heaven had some great scenes, as did King Arthur and The Last Samurai. I have more but that'll do for now.

Yours?

The opening scene of Saving Private Ryan, the scene opening sequence in Gladiator. All of the scraps in 300 and of course Lord of the Rings.

There's a good 'un too in the Return of the Jedi

Glory.

The final battle, when the 54th Massachusetts is honored by white soldiers and officers on the march toward Fort Wagner.

Brings a lump to my throat.

The Dambusters.

Its still a battle. Ish.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Agree with

Gladiator
Opening Scenes Saving Private Ryan
Zulu
Bridge to Far

Would also add.

Opening scenes Gangs of New York
The Longest Day
Battle of Britain
Braveheart
The Magnificent 7 ( closing gunfight )

Plus my guilty pleasure any of the battle scene's between Tom & Jerry
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England

Simba vs Scar. No questions. Or Worries.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind

Hear bloody hear! The film is utterpap.

I'm unsure of whether to vote for A Bridge Too Far or Band of Brothers as the tv series nicked a lot of the action scenes almost shot for shot. But it did them so much better. :D

Plumping for Band of Brothers as some of its original battle scenes are the best I've seen. And it's not sentimental puke-inducing shite!

Actually, the ice planet battle in Empire beats 'em all. The Ewoks were bobbins.

The 'hallway' scene in Oldboy (not sure if this constitutes a 'battle' as it's 1 vs many)
Anything from House of Flying Daggers or Hero

Mentions of course to the epics in Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
