Anyone else hurting??

Anyone else hurting??

Post by Gertie » Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:03 pm

Help me! I know I'm no music snob, I think Gary Barlow is a musical genius, seen Westlife in concert and want to be Kylie when I grow up... but having uncharitable thoughts about the forthcoming charity single for the disaster in Hiati. please tell me to get over myself.

As most people probably know, it will be a cover of REM's song "Everybody Hurts" I am sure that it will raise lots of money to support survivors of the Haiti earthquake, which is undoubtedly an excellent thing.

However I am already feeling queasy at the thought of all the celebs turning the tears up whilst pitching up with, look at me helping the poor and unfortunate with my considerable talent whilst boosting my own profile intercut with slow-mo footage from the scene of the disaster.

I have already donated, but would consider donating rather more than I can afford if someone could arrange for this NOT to be released so I don't have to watch anyone clutching their headphones and wailing "huuuuurts!"

Everybody hurts? You don't say

Sometimes, sometimes everything is wrong. Now its time to sing along...
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

It'd be much easier for all if they dug in their deep pockets and just paid out to the disaster charity, and spared us this 'look at us, this is how much we care' ego-fest.

Surely 'It's The End Of The World As We Know It' or 'Fall On Me' would have been more appropriate.

Good call if they're not restricting themselves to Rapid Earth Movement songs.

You're right! We should be suggesting songs that look forward to a new beginning rather than reflecting on the horrors of a fortnight ago.

How about Shiny Haiti People?

"Little Boxes" all made out of ticky-tacky.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Bit of Starship would have been the correct choice for a rebuilding programme based on funds from music:

Post of the week, except mine, obviously.

Maybe those celebs could go over there and get their hands dirty instead......
