I have got 'Adaptation' to see later.
WTF
This film made me think my drink had been spiked!!
Big bad gang with hatchets come to town.
Big bad landlady who everyone owes money to gets bitchy and has a sonic boom scream
Then one of the queer nancy boy villagers turns into a kung foo master
Axe gang dont like this and hire two killers
Killers start killing people with music
Landlady is also a Kung Foo master and beats them up with sonic boom scream
Axe gang get a nerdy member wannabe to break to ultimate killer out of jail
Ultimate killer kicks the landlady and husbands head in
Nerdy member hits killer and gets head beaten into floor (literally)
Landlady and husband take nerd home and wrap him up as a mummy
Nerd come out as ultimate Kung Foo master
Fights with Killer
Killer turns into frog
Ill leave the end to your imagination
I swear I honestly believe this film was written and directed by the answer is NO!!
YOU CLIMB OBSTACLES LIKE OLD PEOPLE FXCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Troy
Ok, I finally gave in and watched it today.
Even as someone who has read bits of the Iliad in Greek, I'm ashamed to say I actually quite enjoyed it. I'm certain that Orlando Bloom isn't really a terrible actor but is actually a comic genius, but it was so wrong that he didn't die, on so many levels. The great ten year Trojan war did look more like a two week package holiday, but the film is a good-looking epic and anything that gets people interested in classics is a good thing.
Patroclus as Achilles' cousin?! I like it. Menelaus killed by Paris? Hmmm.
Diane Kruger came up a little bit short as Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, and looks a little bit Germanic for the part to me. I'm not sure what they did to her actually because I thought she was really good-looking in National Treasure.
Brad puts in a decent performance and I'd love to know what supplements he was on before the filming.
All in all, it's not as bad as people say, even if does stray from Homer's story in several areas. But that was only a story (poem), so claims of historical inaccuracy are inappropriate anway.
7/10

There are quite a few things 'wrong', but it's all a myth anyway so it's best not to let it bother you.Marshall wrote:Is the movie Troy as wrong as they say it is? I notice you said you have read bits of the Iliad in Greek, I've read parts in Latin and was told not to watch the film before my exam because it is incredibly inaccurate. Correct or a bit of an exageration?
What stood out for me:
1. The 'war' was implausibly short - it looks like it takes about two weeks but it really lasted 10 years
2. Paris didn't die
3. Paris killed Achilles
4. Achilles made it into the wooden horse (he should have been dead by then)
5. Hector killed Menelaus (I think the story goes that Menelaus actually got back with Helen in the end when she showed him some breast...!)
I'm sure there is a lot more wrong with it, but I wasn't too bothered.

It's hard to define in a four word phrase, Batman, but do I detect just a smidgin of bias in your last post?
Re Troy: I own a DVD of the movie. I have watched it just the once, which will give you some idea of what I thought about it. I lent it to my son so he could watch it and give me some sort of critique ... I don't think it's been returned yet (*message to self - check*). Having little - OK, OK - no knowledge of the Iliad I cannot compare the production to the poem. I thought it somewhat shallow at the time but probably should give it a second chance. I might also do a wee bit of research before I do. Don't hold your collective breath for a precis though.
