I'm in absolute awe of this one. You do 16 lengths of a pool, a transition (?) & a 5k run in 30.36?Gary the Enfield wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2017 2:21 pm
Trent Park Aquathlon - last Saturday (400m pool swim and 5km run) 30.36mins
I know that there London is flat with no hills or owt but that's incredible

Cheers Harry (and LE). And yes, it was a completely flat run. 3 loops of a playing fields next to the pool. The swim was complicated as you had to zigzag across 8 lanes. I know I shouldn't say it but I think there's more in me too. Just enjoying my 'fallow' year before concentrating on a couple of 'half' distance races next year.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2017 8:23 pmI'm in absolute awe of this one. 17:34 for that 5k. Best for ages. Hip much better too. Was the first of a series of 5 identical races over summer and into autumn. Good way to chart progress.
Walkington 10k a week Friday next target.

Topped the week off last night with a club race around Epping Forest. Now this WAS a hilly run. Set around an area called High Beech (Beach) in Chingford it takes in the delightful 'Wellington Hill which is Cruella but over 600 metres long.Gary the Enfield wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2017 10:52 pmCheers Harry (and LE). It pissed down about an hour before the race and so, as we started, it was like running in tropical jungle. First two kms were okay then we hit the hills, a rollercoaster of big buggers. I'm actually better running up than down as testified by my heels today which are in agony because I heel strike downhill.
Last two kms I had a Barnet runner on my shoulder. I was tiring (3rd race in a week) but determined to make him work if he wanted to take me. My last mile I ran in 6:44 and dropped him with about 400m to go. Overall pace was 7.45 min/mile.
Best news this morning was that our club (in relegation position going into last night) managed to secure enough points to stay in the top division.
I'm now taking a rare weekend off to recover. Two more races (an Aquathlon and a 5 miler) next week. Love it.
Re: The athletics/running thread
Unfortunately I'm down south until August, planning on doing the Canterbury Park Run tomorrow though.Gary the Enfield wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2017 2:21 pmBeen busy with races recently.
Dambuster Triathlon - mid June Olympic distance (open water swim 1500m bike 42km run 10km) 2hrs 49mins - a new pb
Trent Park Aquathlon - last Saturday (400m pool swim and 5km run) 30.36mins
Lea Valley Aquathlon - last night (500m open water swim and 5.5km run) 36.39 - a new pb.
I'm currently leading the 50+ group in this series and am on course to win if I just attend one of the remaining two races (Aug. or Sept.) My plan this year was to not do too much distance work and concentrate on the sprint stuff. I'm loving racing at the moment (I have a 10km road race tomorrow) and may even get to pick up some silverware too.
Coming up to Bolton in a couple of weeks and will try and make the Park Run. Hope to see you there.

Glorious parkrun morning at Pontefract racecourse today. Great to meet Officer Dibble and get the wanderers shirts out. Stopped short of full kit wanker attire though.

Brilliant. Getting out of the car at work this morning and something went at the bottom of my back, and the discomfort has now spread.
Just after starting up again after the last back injury. Greeeeat

Sounds nasty mate. I had a shock too, today from my knee x-ray. It's incurable. Just a bit of old age. Mechanically fine.

You know you have done something bad when you do it innocuously like getting out of a car or twisting suddenly. I have had chronic back pain for nearly 2 years now. Mine limbers up through the day but periods of sitting down or even worse standing still are not good for me. I hope it get better soon.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2017 4:50 pmBrilliant. Cheers Malc. Aye, yeah, all of that. Though as I've my posture so as to avoid pain in the new area it's now kicked off the freshly healed injury again. Never had any back pain or injury until now. Hope you can find comfort, mate.malcd1 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2017 1:53 pmYou know you have done something bad when you do it innocuously like getting out of a car or twisting suddenly. 7.5 miles around the mean streets of Bury and Bolton last night in 1:15. My longest ever run. I'm a bit tired today!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Every credit. The bad back might be good enough for a 2.5 try-out tomorrow. If that holds out then PR it isBurnden Paddock wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2017 1:01 pm7.5 miles around the mean streets of Bury and Bolton last night in 1:15. My longest ever run. I'm a bit tired today!

Dropped out of the 10k like a big soft bastard! Raced a parkland club relay weds and it was a mistake so close to the 10k on the Friday night. Calf bad from 2k, worse at 5k didn't fancy walking back so struggled on but by 8k couldnt push off on one leg so called it quits. Frustrating but no major damage done I don't think. Got a 25 miles bike ride in in the morning so not a bad weekend.
And lesson learnt.... Maybe!
