Reaching 2K, for me, equals having broken the back of any run, in that it generally gets no more difficult thereafter.
It's my own fault for having gone straight from sickbed to Parkrun (having wimped out on Thursday). Now my neck's wound in I'll get a couple of proper, steady training runs in this week.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Do you put much stock into backpacks when running? Sometimes I carry a regular backpack, but I don't think it's a good idea as it bangs about a lot :/ I got a bit inspired when reading this blog post from ergobag, as I bought a little backpack for my niece Seems to have better structure and straps than most adult bags! Definitely need to pick up something that will support me better when I run.
Re: The athletics/running thread
I wear one if I jog to the gym, but if I were to wear one for proper running I'd have to get a properly designed one. Really don't like running with one on.proudfoot wrote:Do you put much stock into backpacks when running? Yeah I hate it. Used it a few times running home from work and thought about getting a proper one.

If you're fell running or perhaps doing marathon distances, you'll have to carry some sort of pack. Most bum bags are pretty good these days and can be tightened to stop the annoying wiggling about/chafing. Innov8 and others, do some pretty good ones for under £15. If you're going down the whole back pack route, space for drinks bottles, food, clothing etc be prepared to spend a lot! I was looking at one for £125 the other dayproudfoot wrote:Do you put much stock into backpacks when running? Unless you're planning on running an ultra I see no benefit in backpacks. All marathons and half-marathons (and some 5k and 10k for the soft arses) have water stations. Nutrition can be an issue but if you train with gels or other such carb boosting foodstuffs you should carry as little as possible.

My one and only marathon was in Mumbai - all I carried was a 100 rupee note, four sheets of poo tickets and five jelly babies.
Was quite pleased with my decision to pack light - by the end, I'd used everything except the 100 rupee note.
