It's a shame how it's worked out, but I have no idea how genuine that statement really is. Obviously there's a lot of truth in it, but it always seemed over ambitious and we'll never know what would have happened without the pandemic. I know people who are sympathetic to the guy and have heard of others who are furious and have accused him of dishonesty. Just disappearing and saying nothing for months on end isn't a good look though.

I've no idea what outgoings he must have had or how many staff he had to employ/put on furlough etc but if it was genuine he'd surely be responding better than he has? At the very least I was expecting to see some sort of profit/loss statement.
Instead it's been a long period of silence, disappears off social media and then this brief statement with "under the t&c's you can whistle for your money"
One of the biggest outlays is the road closures and the Council have recieved nowt. Worse still, neither have Bolton hospice. I'd not trust this tw*t further than I could throw him.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Didn't something similar happen some years ago and what should've been a marathon ended up being an off road 10K?
I can't recall the exact details but they went something along the lines of -
Organiser. "It's no longer financially viable because BMBC want £80k to close the roads".
BMBC. "Rubbish. It'd be around £4k and we haven't been approached anyway".
I do remember whatever run transpired coming through Regent's Park as I was playing golf at the time.

I didn't enter for this but did lose money on a race in 2020 with the organisers citing 'force majeure'. Not great and hopefully he'll never get near organising another race.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 9:52 amDidn't something similar happen some years ago and what should've been a marathon ended up being an off road 10K?

At least that will spare us his 'reinventing the road race model' PR bullshit. I mean he's kind of achived that now anyway!Gary the Enfield wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 9:20 amI didn't enter for this but did lose money on a race in 2020 with the organisers citing 'force majeure'. Talking of road races, rearranged Bolton 5k on Sunday, are you in? I'm a last minute fitness test after dropping out halfway through the Salford 10k on Friday with a dicky hip.

Could be yes. Can you enter on the day or do I need to get my sh*t together?LeverEnd wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:36 amAt least that will spare us his 'reinventing the road race model' PR bullshit. Was good cheering on Mr and Mrs GTE (with a huge PB) while marshalling the 5k. A really good event and course.

It was a very good course. Happy to get under 22 minutes. Particularly as I had early onset Covid (cough)LeverEnd wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 9:29 pmWas unlimited sausage. Re: The athletics/running thread
Having survived the dreaded lurgy of Covid I'm very much looking forward to my first tri-race of the season. Horwich Tri takes in the delights of Horwich Pool, the undulating circumnavigation of Winter Hill followed by a run straight up to Rivington Pike and back. Did this for the first time last year and had a lot of fun doing it. It's a non-standard course so time is largely irrelevent.
Re: The athletics/running thread
Sounds like a good one GtE. I'll be testing my dodgy hip.at Selby parkrun. This will be my 100th different parkrun venue, elevating me to a new level of parkrun tourist geekery.
