thebish's TW blood-o-swing-ometer

Post by thebish » Thu Dec 22, 2011 5:03 pm

ok...

assuming a round measurement of 500ml of blood given each time you donate...

whack your blood-donor session in here - and I will keep count - and tot up how many litres of TW blood has been donated between the beginning of December 2011 and the end of March 2012 - which is a quarter - about the time you have to leave between sessions.

you can also add in anyone you took with you or persuaded to go.

I thank you!

If anyone mentions an armful I'm going to wish poor tidings upon them ;)

Any specific reason why you're championing this particular cause, thebish?

errr.. I usually do at Christmas (not on here but in my churches) because that's the time the NHS is even more short than normal - and I've known plenty of people whose lives have been saved by blood being available...

nothing intensely personal in my own immediate family - just a very good thing to do at virtually no cost to yourself..

if you donate a liver or a kidney or bone-marrow - extra points!

To be honest, Monty, no. I have him down as being one of this bunch that you're-not-in-the-cool-gang if you don't find funny. Along with Monty Python and Vic Reeves.

I fall out of your dates. I gave blood on 24th November and am not due until 30th April. Not much good for your count up though (By the way I am up to around 34 donations now).

I'm not allowed to. Had very bad bout of Hepatitis Z (or whatever) in India. After I didn't die (the NHS observed me through a small glass panel set in a door welded shut for about a week) they ejected me back into the community with a stern warning not to give blood.

OK - first entry in the blood-o-swing-ometer then...

my 470mls

I took my 19yr old son - but it turns out he's too skinny - he's only 7stone 10oz!!!

(the woman at the desk didn't seem worried that I might be under-weight :( )

Just had my registration confirmed but I'm a bit confused as to whether they actually invite me to a session or whether I just select one from the list - they seem to suggest both. Either way, I'm sure my blood will be off more use to them if they draw it on a Friday rather than on a Monday ;)

a few sessions it is worth making an appointment for that specific session (booking a time-slot) - but you have to take the initiative - they won't send you an appointment for a particular time or anything, the nearest they will come is to to send you the dates/times of the sessions nearest you...

also - don't imagine you can pop in on a 20min lunch break - it can take a while, especially if busy... (take a good book)
