Good Pub Grub
We're off out next Sunday for a family meal and we fancy going to a country pub that serves great food but I dont know of any so I wondered if the TW could help by offering any personal recommendations. We went as kids to Smithills which was always a great meal but that was donkeys years ago, is it any good now?
Thank you in advance

Re: Good Pub Grub
Smithills has the same menu now as it did when we were kids, ST.
The Pack Horse up at Affetside is a nice drive out and does very good nosebag - see also The Shoulder of Mutton at Holcombe Brook (Cheese and onion pie there is to die for).

The Chetham Arms in Chapletown has been taken over by the guy who also owns both of these. Food was excellent.

Remember nipping in there for a pre-match swifto. There was this dizzy bint kicking off as loudly as she could in the middle of the place that her salmon caesar salad had turned up without cucumber, tomato and spring onion, and wasn't what she'd have described as a salad at all.William the White wrote:Agree with Bruce's reccos...

Depends how far you want to go but I've always liked White Crow which is Coppull/Heath Charnock way.

Woodside in Ellenbrook serves up decent food, but the Landlord is a wankstain, so I begrugde handing my money over to him for anything other than a few beers.
Besides, it's not exactly in the country

Anyone been to Ramson's in Rammy. The nosebag's top drawer, and whereas I wouldn't called the owner a wankstain, he really is the epitome of a nuisance. Thinks nothing of plonking himself down next to you and telling of his travels. Re: Good Pub Grub
Whilst in Bolton last week I went for lunch to the Strawbury Duck in Entwhistle.
We had to queue at the bar for 15 minutes to get served, then queue again once we'd decided what food we wanted.
The food took an hour to arrive and, considering a main course there cost between £12 and £15 pounds, I expected better.
The food itself was tasty, though, and obviously freshly cooked.

When I take the dog round Enty Rez all you can smell is some darn good stuff coming out the Raspberry Frog!

Not Valentines if that's what you're intimating. No special menu, reserved seating, nothing. Just shit service.
