Probably by none other than its residents. It isn't one. The term 'village' usually denotes a quaint, unadjoined place. Not an outcrop of Farnworth.
It always makes me laugh when I read residents of Little Lever and Bromley Cross describe their areas of Bolton as "a village".

I'm not exactly what constitutes "a village" but neither are as far as I am concerned. If it it that because both have a row of shops then Tonge Moor, Halliwell, Farnworth, Harwood, Daubhill, Deane and Astley Bridge are all villages.

While we are on the subject, the residents of Moss Lea also make me laugh. For those who don't know Moss Lea, it is a group of half a dozen houses down a dirt path, immediately south west of Thornleigh School. Apparently these houses are part of a Hamlet. It is sandwiched between Oldhams Estate and Astley Bridge for fecks sake.

If that constitutes a Hamlet then every cul-de-sac in the UK is a Hamlet.

I was born in Lostock, which was a village then. Judging by google maps it now appears to be a station and golf course in the middle of a massive housing estate. Sic transit gloria mundi.

I live in Harwood and hear people calling it a village. It's nothing of the fecking sort - it's a suburb at the northern edge of the town. For me, a village doesn't bump into anywhere else, and, like Belmont, has two pubs, one shop and a church. That's a village!

Killed himself now, apparently.

Man kills reporters, tweets about it afterwards, posts video footage of said killings, then kills self.

This feels like some form of dystopia.

Indeed. I can't quite remember who it was, John Oliver, maybe? who pointed out that one guy tried unsuccessfully to detonate a bomb in his shoes and now plenty of us have to feck about taking our shoes off in airports, yet loons go on shooting sprees in the US and what'll happen to their gun laws? Absolutely 4uck all!!!

On a semi-related note.

If the fourth toughest sentence is US history doesn't obviate the need for tighter gun control, then nothing will!

A lot frontpages gone with the image of the guy shooting the woman for tomorrow.

Not best pleased about that, to be honest.

For anybody who wants to see the footage..

http://heavy.com/news/2015/08/vester-le ... ube-video/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If people would rather the link not be there then feel free to remove it.

The guy was clearly in two minds about doing it.. He holds the gun up for a few seconds and then puts it down again. Apart from the fact it's a shooting, there is nothing gruesome or any bodies shown.

at risk of looking like a schadenfreude, i watched the gunmans footage this morning.

its chilling. unbelievable that he is stood so close, with a gun pointed at the reporter for so long without her or the interviewee even acknowledging him.. then the fact that after he opens fire she has time to look at him before turning to run away! did those first few shots miss or is that adrenaline kicking in? madness.
