"Hi can I get a Tubigrip for a knee, please"

"Your doctor can prescribe them"

I need a prescription for a knee bandage?!?!?!?
Who said that!?
Pharmacy!
Probably costs a fiver to you and a tenner to the government, so the pharmacy prefers you buy it via the government. Isn't that how public sector procurement works? :conf:

Loving this story about a council that "hoisted cars" onto a flatbed, to paint double yellow lines, then ticketed them for being on double yellow lines.

Kate Garraway on Piers Morgan now, sympathise with her but does she really have to keep banging on about her poor husband, surely some things remain private?

Didn't see it and I'd rather pluck my eyes out than watch Morgan. But I assume that the whole point of it was to talk about her husband? I'm not sure she'd be on there otherwise no?

Covid has made a mess of a lot of small businesses and they have to cope the best way they can, particularly the self-employed. Fair do's, but today it's pouring down and blowing a gale in our area....so the window cleaner turns up..... . I had to laugh, what can you do?

More bemused, rather. Bradford - City of Culture. Good grief.

The film 'Rita, Sue and Bob Too' is an accurate representation, Tango. :)

I often wonder, and perhaps it’s because I live here, but I do often wonder when we have the city of culture thing and tourists come from abroad what they make of it all.

You know, Rome, Paris, Milan etc all have a certain allure. But Liverpool and to an even lesser extent Bradford are places you go to only if absolutely necessary. I can’t imagine what it’s like travelling over for it, (and people do) and rocking up in Bradford on a wet Thursday….

Liverpool was the European city of culture.

The UK capital of culture seems clearly designed to try to boost "differently nice" towns rather than show off something existing. It's always a bit of a dump. Think it's supposed to bring in funding to spruce things up, which seems an ok idea to me.

Bradford beat Durham though. How the feck could that be allowed to happen?

And for those who haven't been to Durham, Bryson nailed it again when he described it as being "England's best kept secret".
The cathedral alone is worth the journey.

But that's kind of my point, Durham is far too nice to win it. The UK version is essentially a euphemistically named Shithole Improvement Fund.

Spot the odd one out on this list: Derry, Hull, Coventry, Durham :D

Says it. Same with York Define culture? City of Culture was established in 2013 and four cities have won the title:
2013 Derry beat Birmingham, Norwich, Sheffield
2017 Kingston upon Hull beat Dundee, Leicester, Swansea Bay
2021 Coventry beat Paisley, Stoke-on-Trent, Sunderland, Swansea
2025 Bradford beat County Durham, Southampton, Wrexham

Liverpool, amazingly won the European City of Culture in 2008.

Bolton, unfortunately, isn't classed as a City. Pity, because Bolton has the biggest replica Egyptian tomb in Europe and it's Egyptology exhibition has toured China and Taiwan. Historically, we also have/had some famous places of porter quaffing such as Wood Street Club, Yates's Wine Lodge, The Griffin, The Rocket, The Crown and Flick knife and The Flying Shuttle (also known as the Lying Slut) described as Britain's toughest pub( and named after its inventor Samuel Crompton a stout Boltonion.. We also have a famous marathon, Carr's Pasties, two World champion cyclists in Sir Jason and Dame Kenny, and The University of Bolton Stadium is home to the famous Bolton Wanderers. Oh, and Peaky Blinders was filmed in Le Mans Crescent, part of our town hall. What more do they want?

Liverpool have The Beatles Museum, a football team and the docks, Bradford is in Yorkshire I'll leave that to Bruce.

Amen.

Things must have changed since I was at school. I was taught Samuel Crompton invented the Mule, and the flying shuttle was the work of John Kay. I think Kay came from Walmersley, which is close enough to Bolton.

The headline article in today's Evening News is about a drug dealer who was found to have a mobile phone hidden up his bottom.
Nowhere in the article has the journalist even attempted to get a 'ring piece' gag in.
