That stretch, Chatteau Bridge Street (you my remember?) started at the Junction of Haliwell and Blackburn Roads ( The Bug Hut, ie The Empire Cinema was just around the corner) and was, in turn, The Palladium Cinema, (The Plad) The Blue Lagoon Nightclub,(biggest dive in Bolton) The Wryton Stadium and then some sort of a skate-boarding park. Did okay as a wrestling venue with the TV. Kent Walton? Got a bit more upmarket lower down with The Rialto facing the Palais. Civilisation started at Len Tobutt's Sport Shop.

Yeah

Didn't ever go to Blue Lagoon - don't think I was old enough - but it sure had a great reputation... Not quite as tasty as Wood Street in the afternoons... But close...

I once fell top to bottom down the stairs outside Wood Street club with someone attached to me. He was trying to strangle me and I was trying to strangle him. Eeeh, happy days!

'Fraid not. Seen a few clips and understand that it was a WWII pisstake with humourous accents, but never ever watched an episode.

Which I've also never seen. I was living abroad for most of the 80s and have missed one or two 'classics' of British TV.

Lew Faulkner was landlord at the Top Bull on Bury Road and I got served many a time by him and his two sons, Vic Faulkner and Bert Royal. The Wryton Stadium on Bridge Street was a regular venue for TV wrestling shows. Bobo Matu was a doorman on our local club/dive, in my teens and twenties.
I once bumped into André the Giant, aka Giant Jean Ferré. Quite literally - I was trying to go in the theatre door he was exiting. He was billed at 7' 4" and 500 lbs, but I wouldn't put him an inch over 6' 10". He uttgered the pleasantry "Je m'excuse" as he dusted me off and positioned me more or less upright so I suppose it counts as a meeting.

is this on the right thread?
Well, the bikini clad bird on the backing card for pub nuts is apparently from round here somewhere, so maybe. But yeah, you're right.

Maybe someday we can chat, though?
Off Big Ds? Rosie, the game-looking Brunette, or the frankly filthy-looking one from the Chili nuts, known only as 'Dominant'?
No she's called Ruth something, the blonde one who was on the peanuts backing cards for a while, and she went to turton with me.

Just walked past a famous triple-header of John Parrot, Dennis Taylor and John Virgo. Must be some snooker on here or summat!
