Looks lovely. :-)

He's already been :D

Massive thunderstorm last night. Don't mind admitting I nearly shat myself when the windows started shaking at 3am

We're going oooop North at the beginning of December.

To a lovely little place called Noosa. Two hours drive. Will be hitting about 34 degrees too. Tis a hard life.

Noosa looks nice.

How are you enjoying Aus, Bench? A few acquaintances of mine have emigrated and they either love it or are back within 12 months.

Australia can have that kind of effect.

Many come over here expecting to find the mother country but with sunshine and are surprised to find that, well, isn't. The cultures only a few hundred years old and there are quite a few things that are different. If you can get her head around it and take it for what it is, it's a fabulous place to live - especially if you have young kids.

Are there things that I miss about the UK? Bloody damn straight. Family. Decent pubs. Decent beer. The English sense of humour. English television. Good meat pies and edible sausages. I didn't realise it was easy to make a really bad sausage. But apparently it is.

Is it enough to make me want to come back? Not on your Nelly! But, if anything, the football is actually worse.

Glad you are enjoying it. I always fancied it myself but never had the balls to do it.

One thing I noticed when a new immigrant here was a tendency to view the old country through the rose-coloured spectacles of nostalgia. Returning for a holiday is often an eye-opener. Glad it is working out well for you there, Bench.

Many. What are you looking for ? Bars, restaurants, hotels, brothels, art galleries, museums ?

I'll need to look up for details & will get back to you. What you will find is that there are lots of good ones of each, some great settings and provided you aren't there too long there's enough variety. It does get bit samey after a while and I was convinced there's some sort of cartel as almost all places prices work out more or less the same. But 3 or 4 days is brilliant there.

We found an outstanding restaurant on our last evening. Knocked spots off the extremely average - and brutally expensive - ones we'd been to before. IMO avoid everything on the main square apart from the chips sellers and the trip up the tower featuring at the end of In Bruges. I'll see if any of our party can remember the name of it.

Small but interesting art gallery owned by the city, and excellent contemporary art gallery 50 yards away on the same street.

Canal boat ride enjoyable, as is just walking canalside and dropping into little cafes, chocolate shops etc.

Booze grotesquely expensive in obvious tourist areas. But an essential, obviously, so take credit card and bite the bullet.

What Will said. Bruges is tiny but stunning. A couple of nights will be perfect. You can't take it with you, mate.

Cheers. We have two nights but pretty much three full days.

Wanna do the Belfry, the Brewery and a canal trip but that's about all we have so far.

Suppose there will be a load of Christmassy shiz going on too.

In December they have Christmas markets in the Town Hall Square.

Are you going with Mrs Mannerheim or mates ?

one more thing, we fly into Brussels so need to catch the train over to Bruges - is this straight forward enough to just organise as you go, pitch up at the train station like, or is it best to pre-book everything...?
