Though that's the highest first innings score we've had this summer that's led to a win.
Twelve months' ago, when we said Smith's cricket career would forever have an asterisk next to it, this is not what we meant.

Don't know how hard a chance it was (how many do you get with Smith?) but Joe Root just had one that hit his hand.

Looks reasonable to me.

Just watched (and thoroughly enjoyed) an hour of highlights. That catch of Rory Burnes... fantastic. Need some solid batting tomorrow and a repeat bowling performance...Come on...

Root goes early again for 21; just when we were doing so well. 87-2 now. Come on, don't throw the advantage away....

313-8. A lead of 382 with two wickets to fall at close of play. Effectively, it should be enough, but with two days left and Smith in the form of his life....." quien sabes?" Tomorrow should be er, interesting.....

Great knock in those circumstances, and also with a 2 day old baby at home. Also worth noting how crucial that drop on Friday night will be for his career.taddyontoast wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 2:45 pmha! Denly would have been outington-outsky! Buttler likewise seems to have done enough to prolong things, leaving Bairstow very very vulnerable. Fully expect the team for the next test to look like:
Burns
Sibley
Denly
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Foakes
Curran
Archer
Leach
Broad

So, the OZ need 399 to win, we need to stop em to draw the series. ?

194-5. We need to slow down a bit. Tear-arse that's a bit off bowling is a gift. A bit of calm and we can wrap this up tonight.

Just what a test series should be. Up to twenty five days of wax & wane with both sides having periods of pleasure & pain.
Pity the f*ckers get to keep the Ashes but a fine contest and test cricket in a good light.
Such a lovely summer.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Agreed. It seems so long since we had a test series where there were so many tests where the result wasn’t a foregone conclusion by the end of the second day. It’s been what test cricket in this country has needed I think.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Sure been a roller-coaster of a series, and a summer. We didn't get the Ashes back as it was a drawn test, but a great fifth one and a smashing performance Test and World Cup, by England. If we hadn't got Smith and Lambuschagne (sp?) out today .....but we did. They have Steve Smith, we have Ben Stokes, but the whole thing has been a total team effort and Joe Root can't only be seen as a batsman, he's a very fine cricketer. Some of the fielding has been fantastic and so very enjoyable. Archer ( who came in at jut the right time with Jimmy injured) has been superb, but so has Stuart Broad. In fact, well done everybody.

Timely double hundred for Sibley today. He does have the knack of being able to go big and concentrate for long periods.
