Looks safe to say this isn't a bowler's wicket!

What a pointless waste of time.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Cook's 263 - longest ever innings by an englishman...
he'll be fairly happy - does no harm to his batting average!
also - nice to see us grind it out and NOT collapse - and actually take the lead - so often we have failed to do that even in good batting conditions - the old adage "pressure of the scoreboard"...
anything you can do - we can do better!

Even longer than when I watched Chris Tavare's 14 not out v NZ in 1983.thebish wrote:Cook's 263 - longest ever innings by an englishman...
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

good point well made!!!bobo the clown wrote:Even longer than when I watched Chris Tavare's 14 not out v NZ in 1983.thebish wrote:Cook's 263 - longest ever innings by an englishman...
For those too young to remember!!
from Wiki:
His 50 in five hours and fifty minutes, against Pakistan in 1982, was the second slowest in the history of the English game. Among his slowest innings was a score of 35 runs in six-and-a-half hours at Madras in the 1981/2 season. In 2012, Alex Massie wrote that, for Tavaré, scoring runs seemed "a disagreeable, even vulgar, distraction from the pure task of surviving". The Test selectors dropped Tavaré in 1984, after he had made 25 Test appearances, following another time-consuming score of 14 against the Sri Lankans.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
^^ thanks for that detail bish. You do wonder, as time passes, whether it's become exaggerated. Obviously not.
I did think it was NZ but may have been Sri Lanka. I do recall being at Lords & after about 3 hours and him on maybe 7 runs an LBW shout was rejected and I was forced to berate the Umpire for not giving us a break !!

I thought it was for the batsmen to call for bad light.

How the feck can a game that's being played under banks of floodlights get called for bad light?
I thought that it was the batter's call as well.

No. Umpires call. They used to offer it to the batting side. Might still do. But once you go off that sets the light level that play will end at rest of the time.
Should be batting teams call in my view though.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
It's really pissed me off has this. Firstly, I've no idea as to why these games are being played in the UAE anyway - I've played in front of more people than were there last night. However, if a game's being played in a floodlit arena and they still have to go off for the light then the game shouldn't be being played there in the first place, for me, as it's clearly unfit for purpose.BWFC_Insane wrote:No. Umpires call.
