A world record score for ODIs. And the highest ever score recorded in any first class 50 over game.

Seen most things, but not that one. (Seen a similar run out, but not a caught)

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
And the orphans. So now we just Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes to put around 300 on.
EDIT: That'll be that then!
May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Utterly brain-dead. It's not "being positive" to play big booming drives against a world class bowler swinging a new ball around corners. For feck* actual sake.

Been a fair amount of controversy about Jonny B over time. He seems to be shutting the critics up right now?

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
The late middle order is where it's at (at least in this series) N.Z had a clear incentive and were i charge, then up steps Jonny B again, and Overton on 87 ( 247-6) right now. Brilliant fight back from these two.

Great fightback and top knocks from Bairstow and Overton. Also a decent 5-fer for Leech.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
I’ve missed a lot of the cricket this summer due to factors, but I did see the start of the England innings today. I think high quality swing bowling is my favourite thing to watch. Boult had favourable conditions and the most perfect control today. It was one of the highest quality spells I’ve ever seen. Every ball was challenging either the outside or inside edge and the batsmen didn’t have a clue.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Top order as a group were shite, but that Boult ball to Lee was basically unplayable. Hard agree on swing bowling. Love Jimmy and Broad, but Boult is special too. Nothing Leed could do, but Pope and Crawley... You play like that against that quality and you're fecked.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Pope and Crawley’s dismissals in isolation look poor, but came about due to the relentless challenge from Boult. Every ball was in and around top of off stump, either swinging in late, or holding its line and challenging the outside edge. His relentlessness created the uncertainty that left their heads leaning over for the straight one while it tailed back in through the gate. His spell was an absolute master, in favourable conditions, with complete control.Prufrock wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 3:15 amTop order as a group were shite, but that Boult ball to Lee was basically unplayable. I read a stat last night that it was the best opening spell in terms of expected average since they began recording it in 2006.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
It was indeed an excellent spell, but also at a decent pace. The balls that got all three, you wouldn't want them back for another go. And as Jimbo says, it was the build up too. Everyone knows the three card trick is coming (maybe on the third card, maybe not) including the batsman, but they're just too uncertain, because he's in their head. Crawley by normal standards has the capability, but at this level it's technique and mental. He's getting out thought and his technique is off. If you look at yesterday only, you say he got a good ball, but when you look at the series, there's something missing for a top class opener...Pope is a makeshift 3 and fair play for his big 100, but he also feels like maybe a 5/6 batting at 3.
Lees feels like we should stick with. He has had some decent balls get him out.

Such a shame for Overton, out on 97. Take nothing away from a brilliant knock.

Aye. He looked nervous this morning and I'm sure he'll be pi$$Ed off, but a grand 97, followed by a quickfire 42 from Broady. Wonder what odds a lead was at notalot for 6?

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
360 all out. When you consider where we were before Bairstow and Overton... Oh, and Broad hammered 42 and Jack Leach finished with back to back boundaries. What a game cricket is...
