Matt Smith, Alistair Cook and Steve Harmison are going to have to earn their money here.

Fell asleep with headphones in. Now heard us get beat a number of times on a deathloop...it doesn't get any better.

Aussies win first Test as ANOTHER batting collapse compounds Poms’ ‘humiliation’
Love the drum banging Aussie media impartiality. Do we feel "humiliated" ? Not that ours is much better mind. Being a gentleman and jolly good sport just doesn't work very well against the upside-downers, they really dislike us. I'd still rather be a Brit losing than an Aussie winning..( or should that be whining?)

Couldn't get too excited about it tbf...they did win it was ANOTHER batting collapse. Humiliating is a reasonable description.

Humiliation is fair. It was. 5-0 incoming.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 10:49 amCouldn't get too excited about it tbf...they did win it was ANOTHER batting collapse. Humiliating is a reasonable description.

I think we all questioned the decision to bat first in bowling conditions, but conditions only get you so far. If you're shit, you're still shit regardless.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 1:10 pmHumiliation is fair. True dat...but actually heightens the notion that if you get any sort of other potential advantage. Take it.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 12:39 pmI think we all questioned the decision to bat first in bowling conditions, but conditions only get you so far. Sobering reading. Sobering.
Take Root out and England's batters average 18.9 this year. Worst average since 1906.
Add Root in and its still only 23.6.

It's appalling. The second highest scorer is the man with more ducks in a calendar year than anyone in history...
But (and we keep ending up here), I'm not sure who you bring in that's "better"...we've sorta tried most of them.

I think we're at the point where we have to accept we are one of the worst test sides in the world, and will remain so until we find 3 or 4 batters who are worthy of their place in a test side.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 1:04 pmIt's appalling. And as you say there aren't those people to pick right now. Can we not find some South Africans - used to work in the past?

It feels like we’re in for a very very long couple of days in the field here.

Couple of days initially, then our bowlers can have a rest for 2 sessions….Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 9:46 amCouple of days? Very long series, methinks! Least we didn't win the toss and put them in.

Finally got shot of Warner.jimbo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 9:54 amCouple of days initially, then our bowlers can have a rest for 2 sessions….Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 9:46 amCouple of days? Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
The Oz look to be playing anticipation cricket; half their slog shots are made almost before the ball reaches the bat. Our bowling is playing right into their hands. Needs a good spinner to slow the run rate down..(oh, and maybe get a wicket or two.)

Ffs Jos. That's a shocker. An absolute shocker.

Just bring them all home in disgrace. Now. Don’t bother with the rest of this series. There is no contest. We offer nothing. It’s like a new entrant test side picking pub level cricketers and it’s just embarrassing.
Whatever has happened to English test cricket in the last decade is really embarrassing.

I'm sure Insano, you'll appreciate this article on Sky from just over 12 months ago, asking if England were ready to "push on" to become the top Test side in the world...

Ha. In fairness we are just a test level 1, 2 and 3 away from being pretty decent especially if you add Jofra in. And a spinner.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 12:16 pmI'm sure Insano, you'll appreciate this article on Sky from just over 12 months ago, asking if England were ready to "push on" to become the top Test side in the world...

But those 4 players are pretty crucial and we are so bad there that it feels redundant to be playing a very good Australian side.
