There’s a disappointing lack of highlight clips on SM this series so I’ve not been able to see any of today. Reading through comments though we seem to be playing for turn that isn’t there and getting out to balls that aren’t doing a great deal.
Yeah not seen it either - but a lot of the comments are around that point.

I think from the bits I saw that is the case BUT the ball did every so often grip and spin big - not unplayable but there was enough for our lot to panic. The pitch is just the pitch its what you'd expect, dry and potentially going to be harder to bat on. But that's India. Its challenging. Way I see it is this - if Root doesn't make a score and he can't always then everyone else looks vulnerable to spin. Stokes is a great player but a left hander with his batting style will struggle in India on these pitches. So if you're losing Root and Stokes you're looking round and asking how many others are capable of scores on these pitches. Buttler I'd say can play the spin but isn't here. Crawley had a good knock but I always feel good bowlers can get him at any time and after that I'm struggling as to where 300 (which I think was a par 1st innings score or thereabouts) runs are coming from. Comes back to this for me - we need better opening batsmen. Sibley is dogged but gets out too often too early for my liking. And Crawley played well today but I don't have him as a test opener (I think he may be answer to no 3 in the long run). Bairstow missed a straight one - and I'm unconvinced by him at 3 in India in a test team. 5 maybe....

Well, I said at the beginning that each of these tests will go the way of the team that wins the toss.

Imagine my smugness level when I was on two out of two :?

Nearly as good as Bolton 1, Scunthorpe 3. :-)

Last time we batted first in a day/nighter we were out for 58 apparently. Come on leaps and bounds since then.

I'm going to get in early - we're in the lead after Day 1.

I though that too. But we are too collapse prone I guess for that always to be the case. Mind I wasn’t sure we’d win any test so probably overall we’ve done well compared to expectation.

When Joe Root is 3-0 against India on day 2 you know the pitch is not quite what a test pitch should be.

Way I'm seeing this is that a lead of 30 for India might be game over. Could be 3 or 4 down for 30 easily if Indian spinners do the business again. Hard to see England suddenly carving a score out and this pitch ain't improving. But I guess India might be rattled and not quite hit their spots when bowling?

He looks like Shane f*cking Warne. Have to say the pitches and umpiring in this series has been pathetic.

Re the team, my counter-view is: on this ridiculous pitch you didn't need to pick *any* spinners as even I could turn it around corners.

Should've picked 10 batsmen and Foakes.

125-8 takes a bit of believing, but it's a fact...

Haha I heard some wag say Stokesy should have a go at leg spin and he'd be guaranteed at least 3....

Swann (I think) in commentary reckons he has a lovely action and can bowl off spin.

No need though! Root gets another. Hoiked sky-high and Crawley doesn't fluff his lines.

If you haven't seen it, I'd search out the ball that gets Sundar. If Joe Root can do that on this pitch, at the start of day 2, the pitch is a farce.

Come on, finish this off quickly.

In fairness though I'd say if we had Moeen and Leach on here we'd have a much better chance of winning. Extra spinner, bowler who can bat so a longer batting lineup. I know they wanted Moeen to stay on but that bad handling looks a bit costly right now.

Christ even Bess for Broad would give us a better chance probably.

Any addition in the spin department would have to bowl pretty well to beat Root's 5-8 - JSL....

If you could pick any batsman in the world to have a hattrick ball at it would be Bairstow...
