It could have been worse - I suppose.

I'm not much of a cricket fan but I always have a look in at the highlights when the Ashes are on.

Might be my memory failing but I can only think of England performing well over a series in Australia, once in my lifetime. Most test matches there I go to bed feeling all optimistic then hear of another shit show at breakfast.

I'm not a betting man but I was tempted to put a tenner on us losing this series 5-0 but then I heard the weather may be a factor. That's something else I dont remember happening before in Oz.

I'll predict 0-3 with 2 draws, with none of our tail enders ever hitting more than 15, while at least one of theirs will score a half century

If your batting is as weak as ours even weather won't save you.

5-0.

Oh dear. Not quite sure why we batted first, with our line-up. Overcast, bit of grass on the wicket, so leave Broad and Anderson out. Why delay waiting to name the XI, when it looks like mind is made up before taking into account the conditions. Feels like they're making decisions based around what a good team might do, rather than what our team is likely to do.

Mixture of good bowling and poor batting to get out. I think Burns was trying to walk to Perth, for a test match at the WACA. Was that the record amount of ducks in a calendar year he got the award for? And he's better than the opener we dropped.

Root, Malan, Stokes, Hameed, Buttler weren't bad balls at all, the difference between county and test is Steve Smith probably deals with them 99% of the time. Buttler tried to take it to them, but the longest innings faced 12 overs.

Think the "tail" will struggle against the pace, so might not "save" us as much as in other series. Pope, Robinson, Wood, Woakes all out to tail enders shots, with Pope and Woakes making decent contributions in the scheme of things.

All in all, pretty much what most people were probably expecting

Yep just the once, unless you head back to the late 70's / early 80's when we won twice in Australia. But realistically they don't win it over here much either...It's actually 5 each, this century....with us both having taken one series in the other's back-yard.

Bolton hammered 3-0 by Fleetwood and our cricketers mauled by the Aussies and it's absolutely pouring down outside. Not the best way to start the day. :(

You're doing him a disservice. Most ducks by anyone in a calendar year methinks!

Apologies. Then I feel the need to also point out that Burns' name is only the fourth on the list of people who've been out first ball in an Ashes series.

We're also only 8 short of our own record for total number of ducks in a year! 46 v 54 - I have high hopes we could break another record!

Rory Burns is probably one of the worst openers I've ever seen to have played regularly for an international side.

Its embarrassing that he's close to the squad let alone top pick.

When you look down our batting line up - I'm not sure many are good first class red ball cricketers, let alone test ones.

I agree he’s not the person to be the rock at the top that a good test side needs, but his record is the best of any debutant since Strauss retired. It just shows what a terrible position we’ve been in in the last 6 or 7 years.

Ahhh. I was getting my hopes up that it was lashing down...just looked at the Brisbane forecast rain is 50% from around 14:00 local.

Dear oh dear oh dear. Actually bowled well for two hours, pretty unlucky, lots of half chances and edges short. But that last half an hour was chastening. Leach gone for 31 from 3 (30 from the last 2!). Stokes limping badly. These two set and Smith to come.

Familiar feeling. Bed time for me.

So, England 147 all out. Australia 148 for 1.
