Brendon McCullum. No idea whether good or bad pick for mens coach as I think he's only coached short form...wouldn't have been the first name I'd have thought of for Test coach...
Being honest, not heard of him. Sounds very Oz?
Close NZ. Played 100ish tests for 'em

It’s a bit ‘out there’ as an appointment isn’t it? However he’s got character. So that’s a start. And is very enthusiastic.

I’m a bit worried they’ve gone heavy on personality over know how but equally I suspect know how is of limited use when half your batting line up average 10 or something.

So yeah. Interesting to see how it works out. But it’s probably more exciting than some dullard yes man pick like Silverwood.

Interesting first division scores for sides batting first. Lancy were the lowest with 566. Surrey got 671-9 and no one got a ton....a record high. 3rd time Lancy have passed 500, have they set out to make some really flat and lifeless tracks?

Scores have been crazy this year. I don’t see it as a bad thing. Hopefully it can get some players in the mindset of batting for long periods and not feeling they need to take a few chances as there will be a ball with their name on it before long.

Interesting to see amongst all the runs, Crawley is doing poorly.

Whereas Jennings has had a ton and a double ton...

As for balance, I think 4 out of 4, over 550, feels a bit too much, but I guess some sunshine helped. You'd probably think 4 of 4 getting between 350-450 was pretty decent..

Yeah just had a peek at averages. CC Div 1, has 47 players over 40. That around 6 per team?

Not sure that's well balanced...

Brook looks in decent nick (Not that it helps with openers)

Obviously a bit of an outlier, but over 1100 runs at Edgebaston and only 10 wickets falling in 4 days. Over 100 runs per wicket...

Perhaps we’ve just discovered a load of people who actually can bat? Haha.

Apparently, the reason for the recent high scoring is a combination of flatter pitches, a dry spring, and an issue with the new batch of Duke cricket balls whereby they quickly go soft and out of shape.

In other news, Tom Harrison is stepping down as ECB chief executive. The sport's future in this country will be better without him in my opinion.

New Zealand are currently 9/5 in the warm-up match.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ben Compton was added to the list of possible "openers"....He's nearing 1,000 runs in May...

Wowzers. Bet Stokes daren't have dreamed of this good a start.

Or Matty Potts.
