Birthdays
I woke up this morning - in Dryden, Ontario of all places - to find myself a year older. I spend a couple of months each year younger than Dujon - which I enjoy - but I always catch up. Social media tells me Bruce Rioja gets older soon - older but I'll leave it to others to speculate on wiser.
As we age, birthdays come closer and closer together because time speeds up, at least in our minds. There is probably some physiological explanation. For poor old Tango the years must be rocketing by. This phenomenon is a little frightening, and I didn't know whether to put it in the angry, happy, or neither thread, so I started its own.

I have one of those 'milestone' birthdays this year. I'll see if what they say is true

Indeed, it's mine on Friday. I'll be in Dublin, anesthetised.
May the bridges I burn light your way

I'm worried about the memory thing, it's already bad enough.

Happy Birthday Monty.
With obvious differences this is the type of attitude I intend to display when I 'age'
Warning
by Jenny Joseph
WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Happy returns Monty, many of em. At least, like me, you can say, "been there and done that" to most of the young upstarts on here.

Happy Birthday to Bruce too as I'll likely forget later in the week. I have lots of problems remembering what day of the week it is at the moment
