Re: General Chit Chat
Hobes, to be serious for a second, ignoring and even using your sweeping generalisation...
The "snowflakes" are in a far shittier situation than you ever were. In many have to get a decent degree or qualification to even be able to do a very basic job now. Which means many enter workplace later. Earn less (relatively), work longer and probably won't get to retire until they are past your "pill stage". Their pensions are worse, their healthcare is worse, their commutes are infinitely worse. They live in a world where they have to survive through this AND listen to politicians (especially Tory ones) suck up to the "grey brigade" time and time again for votes. The very people who put them in this mess. A generation of baby boomers who all need their arses wiping now and some of whom use the indulgent "we've put in now we're taking out line". Except they are taking out a HELL of a lot more than they put in.
So you might not like it, but snowflakes are possibly a little aggrieved, probably with good reason.

Some of us had to walk in all weathers to school, school rarely got cancelled because of proper snow, tin bath in the back garden or bloody cold outhouse in winter, hand me downs and simple toys at birthdays and Christmas, not bloody phones, I-pads and feckin' designer football shirts, got caned and slapped if we stepped out of line.
You know it made you a bit more realistic about life, not fcuking whinging and moaning because you weren't spoilt rotten and couldn't have everything your own way, to get on you had to work, all your future livelihood was tied up in the hands of the unions who, not the management dictated what your productivity was, a house at 3 grand was a long way off 17.50 a week wages, no central heating, no double glazing, no 40 flat TV screen, computers, microwaves etc. Own a car to commute, get real, walk or bus or if fortunate an old motorbike.
Youth of yesterday never had it as hard as the flakes today?

You didn't die of TB or Cholera either, I'm guessing because of an NHS that wasn't there for previous generations.
So stop whinging and thinking you're special, you're not.

Average house prices are now far higher relative to actual wages. Things change in general, but let's not pretend that the generation entering work now haven't got a pretty shit deal in store. I'm not sure the fact they get to use a computer or have to pay for the school style beatings you got for free necessarily negates any of that

I don't, I am merely replying to BWFCi who stated things were worse for the youth of today, they are not and sorry your lordship TB was a real concern when I was young, drugs used to treat medical issues were never properly tested, fags were 'cool' etc. etc.Lord Kangana wrote:You didn't die of TB or Cholera either, I'm guessing because of an NHS that wasn't there for previous generations.

The point is folk have become far more materialistic now, explain the growth of the new super hero's who pout and starve themselves whilst posting evidence of being complete utter pricks on social media.

Well, houses are far less affordable now than "in your day". So you know. That is measurably and factually worse. As is retirement age. And pensions. You cannae argue those things.Hoboh wrote:I don't, I am merely replying to BWFCi who stated things were worse for the youth of today, they are not and sorry your lordship TB was a real concern when I was young, drugs used to treat medical issues were never properly tested, fags were 'cool' etc. etc.Lord Kangana wrote:You didn't die of TB or Cholera either, I'm guessing because of an NHS that wasn't there for previous generations.

I would love a cottage by the sea, very unlikely now, my 'retirement' age has moved and Brown robbed the pension pot to prop up socialist policies.

But they will affect the snowflakes far more than yourself. And be worse for them.Hoboh wrote:Apart from the 'fact' these affect me as well.BWFC_Insane wrote:Well, houses are far less affordable now than "in your day". So you know. They'll be 40 till they afford a house in many cases and then working till they die to pay the mortgage off.
I'm not saying everything is worse. But they have inherited a not so great situation off the baby boomer generation. Squeeze on healthcare, ageing population to support, no more free higher education, ridiculous house prices etc etc.
That inheritance they've been given is not their fault. Yet likes of you seem to blame them. Which I think might be why they get a bit annoyed on social media. Especially when you've landed them in this mess, but also want to tell them how they have "no idea" and should listen to those with more experience....

This inheritance that Hoboh cocks on about - this is coming from a generation that can't afford to turn the fire on, is it? How's that working out then?

Shouldn't any mention of "my/your generation" in relation to praise or blame for conditions have the words "of politicians" firmly affixed after them?...Councillor Morris springs to mind....

No problems with him letting the bloke go, however I do have a problem with the folk who think he was unjustly convicted, sell out secrets that could get someone else killed, you go to jail.
