All this paedo stuff appears to have caused trouble in Wales.

Yes. 14 years ago.
These weren't even the comedy 'scum' ones.
I've always liked the idea that they thought that paedophiles put gold plaques up outside their homes advertising the fact.

I wonder what they expect to find in his house 30+ years after the event ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

think it's disgusting that his name is being branded about and the police are inviting the media to come and join in with the witchunt.. Obviously using the media to encourage further allegations.
Considering he's been charged with fvck all, it's pretty horrific

On a serious not I also agree Boris, I think there has been enough in the media to suggest that these allegations will be given a hearing without having to do that.
...
Re: Well, I'd never have thought this ...
Dunno, I think it's a really hard one. I used to think that, with these sort of allegations, the defendant shouldn't be named until after any conviction. There is an obvious, and strong, argument that the reputational damage even of allegations of these kind is huge; however, I think there's a very strong argument the other way which us that often the only way to get prosecutions in these cases is to build a case where several people come forward and testify, and the only thing that normally brings people forward is that they know someone else has been through the same thing and so they won't be alone, and won't be the only target for the distressing, but essential forensic investigation of their claim.
I can see both sides of that argument, and am not confident either way. If pushed, I think I'd say there should be no naming until the person is charged (and so shows there is at least enough evidence on the sole basis of the person who has come forward) to go to court. Then any further allegations might strengthen the case, but wouldn't be its main foundation. The problem then you'd have is making sure the police don't start charging people as a fishing exercise.

Absolutely ... and the suggestion that naming flushes out new claims hardly works this time as the name has been bandied about for years.boltonboris wrote:think it's disgusting that his name is being branded about and the police are inviting the media to come and join in with the witchunt.. I also think the way the police turned up with the BBC in tow, including a TV helicopter is disgraceful.
I have no idea whether Cliff Richards has done anything or not, but there is no excuse for that.

Agreed on the coverage. Particularly the helicopters which resemble something from 'America's Wildest Police Chases'. Totally uncalled for.

With TV, the printed media, e-mails, facebooks, twitterboxes and all the rest there'll be a million guilty verdicts before any trial even starts.

Re: Well, I'd never have thought this ...
The cops reckon that the allegation came via the media. In that case they were left in a situation where they couldn't control the press, but had to manage them. Agreed, the helicopter was over the top, but that's down to Sky, not the Police.
I suspect that a deal has been done in order to prevent Sunday paper headlines making the lines of "73 year old entertainer in paedo investigation" which for months has been shorthand for "We've not quite got enough on Cliff".
