Seriously, I use my phone occasionally to take pictures, but I've not once had the need to phone somebody on my Nikon. Plus I like looking inscrutible. The answer, obviously, lies in me having all three: phone, camera, inscrutability. Sorted.

My dad's camera lets you do four-frame panorama photos. You just take one, then line an x up that appears at the edge of the screen, and repeat. Wouldn't that be simpler?

most cameras will do that - but what we were talking about was what happens next!! your dad's camera then spews out four photos - reasonably but not perfectly aligned - then you need stitching software such as LLS was describing...

I stumbled across this bloke whilst looking for reviews for the FZ200. I found it a bit spooky that not only had he reviewed the camera in depth and put about 17 vids on youtube, but he's obvioulsy based in Lancashire somewhere close to where I was brought up and taken loads of photos of views and places I'm very familiar with. It's obviously a sign that I should buy the camera. Or is it?

What's equally spooky is that a while ago, I was looking to buy a waterproof headcam, or Sports Action Camera as they seem to be called, to use whilst kayaking. I stumbled across a review of a camera I ended up buying (http://www.techmoan.com/blog/?currentPage=10" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). The website's run by a bloke dedicated to spending loads of his spare time creating excellent impartial reviews of all sorts of cheap techy stuff (including cameras), that's right up my street. What's weird about this is that the video clips he uses are of the area around Chorley/Euxton/Charnock Richard etc, suggesting that he's also from the very area I was brought up. What's going on?

Just had an hour at the Lowry at Salford Quays. I love taking 'blue hour' images. Plenty of people out and about with cameras and any budding photographers could do worse than getting to know this area.

Yeh, I quite like night shots, but once again they are tricky when using filmstock.
This one turned out well, it's from the old town in Kyoto, an entrance into one of the yakitori shops that litter the back alleyways.

am surprised it isn't more noisy with an ISO that high.... what's the deal with the blue??

I had it processed in Japan using fuji equipment. Same filmstock processed back in England was horrible - huge spots all over the photos - couldn't quite work outwhether it was just the silver grain or whether the film had been damaged coming back through the X-ray machines.
The blue just came about accidentally. I think it might have been a result of me calculating for a lower ISO of ~400 (which is what I normally use for night shots. I'd forgotten for this roll that I'd managed to find 1500 film in Japan itself) and the Fuji processors who bumped up the exposure during processing. So the basic answer is serendipity.

Oh, and I used ring flash on it too. That's one of the reasons why I stood to left, not only a better composition, I also deliberately avoided capturing the flash light in the glass reflections.

you're a bit of a serious photographermonger on the quiet, aren't you!

always makes me smile to see holiday makers taking photos through plate glass standing head on and using flash... (often in aquariums!)
