which phone?

Post by fatshaft » Sat May 11, 2013 11:55 am

I'm not too worried about a fancy phone, but I have the chance of a very cheap contract with choice of any phone through Vodafone.

So what's best?

Don't want something so big you could put it in your living room and replace your TV.

Would prefer it to have as good as camera as possible.

Still looking to keep a cheapo contract, so no iPhone 5 £50pm+ ****e, but if there's a significant advantage, then I may consider it?

SO:

iPhone 5
iPhone 4
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S3 mini
Samsung Galaxy Ace
HTC S V
HTC 8 S
Nokia Lumia 920
Nokia Lumia 820
Nokia Lumia 620
Sony Experia miro
Sony Experia SP

Anything else?

For what it's worth,( wouldn't know myself, as my mobile's a basic Nokia model from five years ago) both wife and son have Samsung Galaxy Ace contract phones. Both seem to like them okay.

If you want a decent camera the Lumia 920 with Nokia Pureview technology is supposed to be superb.

HTC One or HTC One X / X+. HTC One is very very good, though not on your list...

I've just ordered the Experia SP. On paper it looks great and the small number of reviews so far are positive.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far chaps, went into a phone shop today to have a look, man some of those things you could put a mattress on and sleep on them eh?

S3 Mini looking fave at the moment I think, purely on size. I like the HTC alternative though.

Same here ..... finally abandoned the very cspable but limited BlackBerry after 6 years and took to this .... very pleasant machine.

Still learning what it can do.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I love mine, don't get me wrong - but for making calls its CRAP! I always end up muting myself with it (same might say that's not a bad thing) Thankfully, I don't actually make many on it, use it mostly for texts and internet for which I reckon its the best.

hmmmm... a phone that you can't make phonecalls on (and - isn't the camera also now broken?)

I have to turn the phone screen round the other way to use the back facing camera as the forward facing one is all cloudy. Which makes for interesting photos/vids as I can't actually see what I am taking... But that's my fault for dropping it once too often.

I don't think the iphone camera is as good as can be found in other phones, at least from reviews I've heard previously IIRC.

Mind I've never managed to mute myself on the iphone. I think there is some "user error" going on there......

Cheap .... very cheap, immature and puerile.

Did I say "cheap" ?

You'd be signing up to the evil empire. Otherwise it is intuitive. You'd be stuck with iTunes though, which is not to be recommended highly...
