Love his early stuff, but used to think he was a right weirdo on Top of the Pops when I was a kid. Huge talent and a sad loss.

One of my earliest memories of Top of the Pops was watching Bowie perform Space Oddity. When I bought the songbook to the film Absolute Beginners I realised that Bowie had a knack of delivering the intricate in a very straightforward manner. It feels weird, Bowie's music has been one of life's constants. RIP

A true icon. He'll be talked about for centuries to come. Such a sad day.

Very sad, very, very, sad.
In a music world consisting of the Cowell type artists and unrelenting copy dross boom, boom beat, a true artist will be missed.

RIP Ziggy, master, never Aladdin Sane!

Same here. My first sighting of him, on TotP had him wearing make-up, a blouse and arms draped around Mick Ronson. It was a bit much for a 13yr old to take to be quite honest.

I tended to "catch up" with his various personas. Usually I was just getting used to one when he moved on.

His great days were around 1972-80 but he was good and moved music along brilliantly throughout his career. (* except Tin Machine. That was proper shite !)

Truly a unique talent.

I considered going watching Tin Machine when they played at The Academy, but it'd just have been wrong on every conceivable level!

Ha, worry not Bobo, when I was thirteen he'd have been arrested for looking like that.

The King of the Weirdos. Upsetting conservative people since 1947 with his long hair and his gender bending and his audacity to be different (and in the public eye no less). Thank you David. Thank you for unlocking the potential of many of 1973's "Tomorrow's people" and beyond. The effects of which will be felt, for those who want to find them, for many generations. A modern icon.

Sadly and undeservedly the passing of the complete fecking arsehole, Harry Webb, will get as much coverage, but only a fraction of the heartfelt loss.

Been a good reminder of how much good stuff he came out with over the years and if he upset Cliff too, that can't be bad. Has there been any mention today of his comments early in his career about race/the Nazis? (I forget which & can't be ar5ed looking it up)

Not to worry, Spotty - he's sort of related to Archibald Leach and Marion Morrison.

RIP David Bowie - major talent and real game changer.

The passing of David Bowie seems to have somehow overshadowed that of Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart!
