This weeks RIP's........
At risk of becoming the resident obituary columnist; as well as Ray Manzarek this week, RIP Trevor Bolder, Spider's from Mars & Uriah Heap Bassist. Eddie Braben, genius comedy writer and main scripwriter for Morecambe & Wise. Also another name from my youth leaving us, top baddy of the ring, wrestler Mick McManus, aged 93.

Yes, their loss kind of got lost amongst the other loss. Also on that list are Richard Thorp, who played Alan Turner, Emmerdales longest serving character, and Brian Greenhoff.

Used to watch Mick McManus live at the Wryton Stadium on Bridge street many years ago. Also Bill Pertwee, best known for playing the miserable, over-officious Warden Hodges, quite brilliantly, in Dad's Army. RIP, Fella, and thanks for some magnificent laughs.

B-hell, this is like talking to my mother.
She routinely tells me who's died .... 95% of which I have absolutely no recollection. She then puts in amazing feats of recollection until I have a vague memory, or pretend I have.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

My Mum does the same. Only, recently we've moved onto the people within my parents' age group that I've always known as 'Auntie this' and 'Uncle that'. They being lifelong family friends. Guys that my Dad played Rugby with and their wives, generally.bobo the clown wrote:B-hell, this is like talking to my mother.

RIP, can't remember the book (it had a green car on it) but the comparison with tampons and crampons was brilliant.
Must read them again, funny stuff

I read Indecent Exposure after rave reviews on here. Was decent, good even, but didn't (couldn't) live up to the hype!

Esther Williams, 91. R.I.P. Miss Swimsuit who made films about swiming, er yes. To her great credit she admitted she couldn't sing, act or dance. Imagine making a film today about synchronised swimming. She did, and got away with it. Dangerous When Wet.

I think I ought to add to this thread someone most if not all of you will never have heard of. Para John. A Swinton legend, buried yesterday. Long were the tales of Goose Green and the assault by 2 Para and the "schrapnel" moving in the leg etc. Retired out of the army and living on an enhanced army pension. Full regalia and smartly dressed, with the 2 para tattoo on the forearm and the 2 Para tie to match. Much kudos from most folks for a genuine hero.
Revealed at the funeral, he never actually got into 2 Para (or the army for that matter).
Para John, I salute you - carried it off marvellously for the 35 years or so I knew you (albeit as a nodding acquaintance and occasional have a pint with bloke)...
