The Painting Thread... (as opposed to art debate)

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Wondering how best to repond to that Monty (in that p'c era). Probably best to not respond at all. Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant, St Bernard's Waltz, Cuckoo Waltz, Brittania Two-Step, Pride of Erin Waltz....gee, it's a pc nightmare.. :wink:
Not to mention Strip the Willow, poor thing.

A couple of quick ink and wash efforts from my sketch book. Just impression sketches from old photographs, half-an-hour each. Old bloke reading his paper in the park, chap playing bowls and a sketch of the old Top Storey Club, beside the River Croal, that no longer exists and is now a carpark. Just wanted it for a keepsake memory of it and the folk I knew that died in the fire there.

Top Storey Club (I never went) had a tragic end.

Yes, it wasn't one of my regular nights out but I knew several of the 19 people that perished there. It was a terrible thing and highlighted the need for safety rules in place. I don't want to publish the details in this thread, but this link covers it all. http://www.turnbullfiresafety.com/index.php?p=1_26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Today's offering has a superimposed frame to show it better. A sketch of the old harbour at Lyme Regis pre 1900. Idea taken from an old black and white print.

Used a photograph I liked (From the film Persuasion) of a woman walking along the Cobb at Lyme Regis to make a pencil drawing from, then decided to go ahead and paint the scene

Two to end my (fictional) visit to Lyme Regis. First is just a line and wash sketch, other an idea from an old monochrome painting.

Further to Eilean Donan Castle, did a couple of summer and winter sketches based on views but with my own slant on colours etc. The frames are just simulated for effect.

Talk of Heaton, Ivy Road, Harper's Lane etc led to this. I lived on Elgin Street later, but as teenagers we used to walk up it to Vallett's Lane and then across to St Edmunds youth club Sunday nights. The house in the painting was called Ropers Farm/Barn and later in life we used Vallett's Lane because the illustrious Gardner's Arms was down there. :wink:

An ink and wash work based on Clapton's brilliant black and white photograph in the Photo Thred.

Going back through the cracking pictures in the photo thread I found thebish's trip to Lindisfarne-Holy Island. I've visited a fair few historic spots in my time, but this unfortuanately isn't one of them. Anyway,I spent part of today putting this effort of Lindisfarne Castle together, not from any of the pics here, but basically using a tourist site idea as a reference.

^ ah, yes. I see what you mean. I like that a lot. The Tuscany trip we have just come back off was a painting holiday for Mrs C, booked back in January, but the adverse weather curtailed her activities somewhat. Whilst it was great for me wandering around clicking the shutter it wasn't quite so much fun for her sat on cold, damp stone for several hours at a time. Stunning location though!
