^ I like that a lot. Got movement in it in all the right places. Reminds me of the heavy horses on the beach beneath Black Combe.

Had to look up Black Combe, Clapton, as it didn't ring bells. I got the basic idea from a photograph of horses on Inch Beach in Ireland (where Ryan's Daughter was filmed), so not too far apart in idea. A lot of artists work from photographs these days but I always try to put my own spin on any I use. Glad you liked it.

Weather's lousy so spent last night and this morning in a nicer place (mentally). An impressionist view of Eilean Donan castle in Scotland's western Highlands..(or it could be Brigadoon) Camera flash got a bit happy with the lilac which it often does with some watercolours, but the rest seems okay.

Apparently, Monty, (and I've seen quite a few picures of it) the tide comes in and recedes daily so that sometimes under the bridge arches are almost dry and others a full stream. Have a look here:

Inspired by Joseph Crawhall's "The Forge". Crawhall was a Victorian English painter who specialised in painting birds and animals (and other subjects) in watercolour. A brilliant artist and this is just a cap-doff to his work.

Still on horses, snow and local stuff. Back at the start of this thread I did a painting of an old photograph. It was a reasonable attempt but a bit bland and I always wanted to do one with more "life/movement/reality". I did the second one this week and much prefer it. Not perfection by any means, but....

Just a comment here Tango and no way a criticism, as it's way better than my abilities, but the road looking less steep on the 2nd pic makes the chap on the plough slightly out of perspective to me. Great effort though and nice use of colours too

I actually got the road wrong in both pics Harry, well, mainly the first, as the photo shows it rising upwards not sloping down as is indeed the case with that stretch of Halliwell. Not that critical though, as it'll never make the Tate....

Took an old black and white photo as a base, swapped a pair of boots instead of a billy can and added a kit bag. My version of the pit lad who made good..

Ever looking to capture mood, movement, light etc, these are not paintings, but ten/fifteen minute attempts from my sketch book. I make no attempt at detail, just try to catch the whole thing. Not surprisingly, on one of my favourite topics.

Wondering how best to repond to that Monty (in that p'c era). Probably best to not respond at all. Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant, St Bernard's Waltz, Cuckoo Waltz, Brittania Two-Step, Pride of Erin Waltz....gee, it's a pc nightmare..
