I need to get myself on something like this. I've never really taken to cycling, despite a few attempts. I need to though. We're going on a cycling holiday to Vietnam in September

Henrik Pedersen's fallen off of his bike. Looks nasty, but he says that it looks worse than it is. Stood up on the pedals when his chain snapped, apparently.

Road cycling. Dangerous.
Off road cycling. Fun.
That's my contribution, I thank you.

Re: The Road Cycling Thread
I see merits in road cycling during the winter to keep your fitness up for summer mountain biking adventures, or commuting. but apart from that i dont see the point in it as a full time pursuit. why ride along roads when theres rocky, muddy, rooty, jumpy, swoopy trails to explore in the hills and forests? one of the main reasons i love mountain biking is the escapism and getting to places where cars cant get.
I appreciate the speeds achieved and milage covered on road bikes is a big buzz, which is why many people do both! but if i had both to choose from but only managed one ride a week like i do atm, id always choose mtb.
you also look a proper tallywacker in lycra!

Re: The Road Cycling Thread
I cycle as little as possible on the roads.
A couple of weeks before a triathlon race I'll go out and do a couple of 'Brick' sessions (bike then run to replicate transition during a race) but that's about it.
However next year I am looking to do the Ironman which means having to put some serious time in on the bike. So I may be looking to up my mileage once the weather improves. Gulp

Would be up for some sportives if you fancied. Trying to line my calendar up for the year. Got a new bike just before Christmas and can't wait to get out on it properly.Annoyed Grunt wrote:I realise this is probably only going to be posted in by me, but feck it.

Re: The Road Cycling Thread
would like to post more on this thread & probably will over time; but for now, get yerselves signed up for the West Pennine RC 'North West Passage' Audax. Hopefully you still have time. Always a lovely little intro into the season. And for all this sportive bollox, if you want to race, don't feckin' pretend & get fleeced £60 for the privelige of riding your bike on roads you could ride for free, get a licence and race. But learn to ride in a peleton (bunch) first. There is much to learn......................
