Winter Olympics

Post by Montreal Wanderer » Fri Feb 14, 2014 4:42 pm

No yet mentioned here but I've found them pretty exciting. Perhaps not so interesting in the UK, though you are set to win your first gold in Women's skeleton. For Russia and North America the focus is on ice hockey rather than the other sports according to the BBC.. However, slope style skiing and boarding (new sports) are pretty dramatic as is short track speed skating and the moguls. I wonder if they will be covered in Mexico next week.... :conf:

That blonde snowboarder who won bronze for team GB on Sunday were pretty easy on the eye.

... and a Gold in the tea-tray.

I couldn't even imagine watching that live, let alone doing it !!

I watched that one last time when the fit one won.

Pretty much my only criterion as to whether I watch; I don't think I've ever actually sat and watched a man do any winter Olympicsy things.

Amazed and awed at the skill of some of the snowboarding kids, ours not the least. Well done Lizzie Yarnold for taking gold.

What is it with skaters. They start off with something classical, then rip into Ace of Spades in the mid-section...bizarre.

Meanwhile, Putin's $52m Olympic folly of having it in a place which is not naturally all that cold is looking a bit daft. competitors in shorts, spectators sun-bathing, skiing in slush. Can't wait for a winter World Cup in 42c. temps.

On waking up this morning, I heard Graeme Bell interviewing Vanessa Mae about skiing on Radio 5.

Why is an ex-Wanderers midfielder talking to a violinist about bombing downhill on planks of wood?

What next? Warren Joyce discusses dancing on ice with Stefan Grappelli?

Ray Train talks about downhill snowy tea-tray racing with Nigel Fvckin Kennedy?

W@nkers. The lot of 'em.

Still struggling to see how the Christie girl deserved a penaly and didn't make the final of the speed skating. I've watched it several times and still I'm no wiser. The Chinese girl took her out with a sideswipe yet both got penalised?

Oh, and how whacky is that ski-cross? Hair-raising ain't the word; you have to be able to fly as well as ski.
