podcast recommendations
OK - I realise this will be a very subjective and personal choice, but I have just upped the size of my MP3 player and digitised my CDs... but I have plenty of room left over for downloading podcasts and listening to them at my leisure (which is summat I've not really done before)
so - any favourite/recommended podcasts I should consider?
obviously I already have:
Men In White
The Archers Omnibus
Radio4 Friday night Comedy
Radio4 Comedy of the week

I subscribe to the Kermode and Mayo film show and the desert island discs.
Also quite like The Kaneing which is a new weekly topical chat with russell lane & guests.

Re: podcast recommendations
Richard Herrings Leicester Square Theatre podcast is a good one if you like interviews with (mostly) comedians.

cheers for the Richard Herring heads up! fantastic show.
Re: podcast recommendations
Listening to the Bugle this week, which was a 'best of' because John Oliver has a new TV programme starting, and got loads of weird looks as I laughed out loud on the bus as the first episode after Bin Laden was killed was described as a 'less of a tribute episode, and more of a f*ck you-logy'. I'm stealing that somehow!

Richard Herring has become very irritating.
Re: podcast recommendations
yeah - I fear he's a very short bursts kind of delicacy!General Mannerheim wrote:Richard Herring has become very irritating.
Re: podcast recommendations
I don't mind him, but have a similar issue with the 'Kevin Pollack Chat Show' on Youtube. I find him really irritating, particularly his interviewing style (talking too much, questions that go nowhere) but he seems to get really good guests.General Mannerheim wrote:Richard Herring has become very irritating.

they carried on a fab discussion about what the rules actually are when you are house-sitting and the house owner leaves with the phrases - "make yourself at home" and "help yourself"... what are the limits?

Re: podcast recommendations
As a result of a change in my job, I do a lot of driving at the moment. I tried audio books, which were fine, but thanks to this thread (and a clever little gadget that allows me to listen to MP3s from my phone through my car cassette player), I'm now a convert to podcasts.
I like Rhod, but was disappointed with the podcast I heard, so binned him. Maybe they've got better?
Anyway, for those interested in cycling, there's a good Telegraph cycling podcast running daily at the moment 'cos of Le Tour, full of interesting interviews and reviews of various cycling events, not just Le Tour. Definitely worth a listen if cycling's 'your bag'.
I also like Frank Skinner. It seems he has a Saturday radio show on 'Absolute radio' This results in a podcast with all the music taken out. It passes the time.
If you're interested in films 'Kermode & Mayo' have a podcast from 5 Live.
Oh and Danny Baker's 5 Live Saturday show is a must for me.

Re: podcast recommendations
Podcasts had been something I steered clear of until this years summer holiday, but going to somewhere where I knew there to be naff all entertainment I looked at and downloaded Downcast and then set about finding something decent to listen to.
I'm not a huge fan of Radio 4, although Mrs C is, but I've found Desert Island Discs archives to be a rich source of podcasts well worth listening to. The weekly comedy from the same source is also usually worth a listen. Then there's Simon Mayo's Confessions podcasts and him and Mark Kermode's film review is also a must.
This week though, egged on by Bob Mortimer, I found The Angelos and Barry Show. An acquired taste, I think its fair to say, but funny as fek and well worth a try. Only four shows in so it might be new to many of you.

Re: podcast recommendations
Had the podcast Welcome To Night Vale recommended to me. Series based on a fictional southern US town and presented in the form of a news bulletin. Supposed to be reet good. Anyone listened?
Nero fiddles while Gordon Burns.
