Tour d'Yorkshire
I have never seen crowds like those showing today in the opening day of the Tour. Amazing scenes.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

A great start to the race. Cav being a dick has probably ruined his season. Contador for the overall for me. I think Froome will bottle it.

As a Lancastrian one's loathe to admit it but Yorkshire did Englan proud. Shame that they embarrassed us with their turn out for their test v Sri Lanka, mind.

Really gutted for cav, whole stage looked great though.
This is the climb awaiting them today, after 200km of racing. Oof

Makes you realise that in amongst the shitholes we really do have some areas of outstanding beauty. All of it virtually on our doorsteps.
Loving the French translations too. 'Pied de cote de Blubberhouses'.

Also, as anyone who ever flies over the UK knows, the "crowded island" claims are properly bllx.Burnden Paddock wrote:Makes you realise that in amongst the shitholes we really do have some areas of outstanding beauty. All of it virtually on our doorsteps.

Was that Bolton Abbey yesterday? Caught a glimpse of the Abbey, but not the caption. Another stunningly beautiful area.bobo the clown wrote:Also, as anyone who ever flies over the UK knows, the "crowded island" claims are properly bllx.Burnden Paddock wrote:Makes you realise that in amongst the shitholes we really do have some areas of outstanding beauty. Anyone else see that knobhead spectator get twatted by Sagan, (I think) on the main road into Keighley? Knobhead!

Re: Tour d'Yorkshire
Missed that but the ONE downside yesterday were edits standing in the road. One held a card '60% incline' warning sign across the face of the lead rider as he got to the very top.Burnden Paddock wrote:Anyone else see that knobhead spectator get twatted by Sagan, (I think) on the main road into Keighley? Re: Tour d'Yorkshire
Saw a bit of it on telly on Sunday (stage 2). That's the thing that made me cringe... so many people encroaching on the road and waving hands/flags/signs in riders' faces and slapping lycra. There can't be that many of Bobo's edits in Yorkshire, some must've been imported for the occasion!bobo the clown wrote:Missed that but the ONE downside yesterday were edits standing in the road. On teh social media some people were complaining that you didn't exactly see the best parts of Sheffield. The general idea was to counteract all the grim views of Sheffield from movies for tourism. All I can say is, if the rest of the world doesn't enjoy a good scrapyard it's their loss!
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Who is responsible for the coup of taking it to Yorkshire?

Re: Tour d'Yorkshire
Its actually quite expensive getting the tour to come through your town or village. You have to put all kinds of depositions (and cash) together. Rumour has it that there are places all over France who take years to pay it off, but see it as good publicity. Particulalry if they are tourist-led economies. Which covers much of southern, south eastern and south west France.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Still... that's some vision and political skill to get the package together to take the Tour de France so far out of France, and not just to a capital city for a corporate photo opportunity.
