Not Mrs Bob and I have a ten quid limit on Christmas presents, so 2 belts from Geoff Banks ( I suspect she broke the limit!). On the plus side, this means we can spend more on holidays, so flights to Portugal at Easter just booked and looking for flights to Dublin to visit family.

We ask each other, "what do we really need that we can't buy when we need it?". That isn't because we're flush, but because we have all the socks handkerchiefs, ties, scarves, chocolates and flowers etc,ever needed, and how many watches and rings does anybody need? Books. music are rarely quite the right choice and I wouldn't dare buy her a sweater without keeping a receipt for it to go back two days later. We spend our present money on the grandkids these days and what presents we get usually come via family. Means that if we do go out and see something we really want (and can afford) we buy it without worrying about the occasion. Works well for us both as we get what we really want.

It's a stage a lot of folk seem to reach sometime. A lot less stress too.

Me and the boy got two tickets to star wars for after the game on Monday. Three easy points off-of Blackburn a Nandos then watching something that happened long time ago in a galaxy far, far away with a moody teenager.

Not at the moment - it conked out! waiting on it getting repaired.

I do use it quite a bit, but mainly for heating stuff up, rather than all the recipes in the book, though do cook chicken in it quite often. Great for chips, hash browns etc. Also use it for reheating some prawns we buy from Changs. They have a tempura batter and it gets them heated in minutes with a crisp batter. I have made a pizza in it, and it was good, but you're limited in size, so I'd rather use the oven and make several at once. Didn't get around to using it for a casserole. I do miss not having it at the moment but I'm not sure it's a must have gadget. If you plan to use it for anything other than chips then the ones with the under heating element are best.

The gadget I do use a lot and wouldn't be without now is the Thermomix. Definitely recommend one if you have the budget and like to do a lot of cooking from scratch.

I did fantastically well, like being a kid again, bloody loads of stuff. First time I wasn't at home first thing which was weird. At the in-laws instead who gave me a massive sticking with loads of stuff, the thoughtfulness of which was only slightly tempered by the inclusion of a book called "Legend" by the chief rag bastard.

Oh well, we won't get cold this winter.

I got my father the perfect Christmas present for the first time ever. He actually laughed and was appreciative of it. It was an A4 piece of paper with a very long list in very tiny writing inscribed on it. It started 1. The size of elephant turds, 2. Clockwise or counter-clockwise on the M25.
At the top in larger letters was the Title "1001 Fxcking Things You've Not Yet Ruined Christmas By Arguing With Your Family About, Yet"

Given the recent weather we all had a giggle when my Dad opened his present. I bought him a book on the Dambusters crews and what they did after the successful campaign. It's title? 'After the Flood'
