Me either, although I thought they also mentioned raising the 40% income tax threshold to £50,000 which surely benefits a few? Similairly, where people on minimum wage work less than 30 hours a week they would be exempt from Income Tax. Was that the tories too? I'm starting to get befuddled with who's offering what.

Love them or loathe them, the UKIP manifesto launch this lunchtime was very impressive. They ticked every 'White van man' box, pished off the Scotstoun with a promise to reform the Barnet formula and it was all costed. After the debate, I thought they were dead in the water. Possibly not anymore.

Re: Politics, The Election May 2015
when you say "costed" - those "costings" rely on some pretty wild assumptions - eg. £9bn savings from withdrawal from EU...Bijou Bob wrote:Love them or loathe them, the UKIP manifesto launch this lunchtime was very impressive. they claim these figures are all backed and approved by the Centre for Economic and Business Research... yet, the CEBR adds the caveat (over the EU figure) that "it cannot comment on how EU policies towards Britain would change as a result of withdrawal." - which is surely the crucial factor!! UKIP's figures seem to be based on the idea that nothing would change in our trading relationships with EU countries... I reckon it fecking would!
also - no mention of how we would replace the funding that currently comes from Brussels... surely we wouldn't still expect to receive all the grant aid?? would we???

^^^ massages. Don't overlook the massages.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I'll have you know I dusted and polished today, finished the ironing, walked the hounds AND sent a work e mail. Productive day in my book. And I only cost 3 nurses, which seeing as Ed is promising another 20,000, is easily affordable.

Nick Clegg
This man will stop at nothing to be in a government, seems he has now changed his underwear and no longer will object to an EU referendum, more proof if needed of just how unscrupulous the man is.
Are the Lib Dems dead or hibernating, they must be letting this clown ruin their party.

There is an answer to all this, but unfortunately most folk only consider their pocket and convenience...Hoboh wrote:So our friends in the EU (Spanish) are busy using cheap migrant workers living in appalling conditions to undercut our farmers, great this in it all together club EU isn't it?

Buy British produce and the supermarkets will soon get the message.
Stop using Amazon and they might reconsider zero hours contracts.
Stop buying coffee from Starbucks and they might reconsider their tax arrangements.
Stop eating KFC and the NHS might not need ever increasing amounts of money.
Don't like kraft fecking about with creme eggs? Don't carry on buying them then.
And so on...
Problem is, people grumble them carry on as normal. Will you refuse to buy those Spanish tomatoes? Bet within a couple of weeks you'll just pick them up without looking where they come from...

You've never been to Wisbech have you?
The amount of immigrants (many illegal) that are used there and the surrounding area to harvest vegetables is disgraceful. They sleep in barns, derelict houses and sheds with no running water, heating, lighting etc. and then hand pick the cabbages, sprouts etc. for long hours.
Must be an EU directive.......
Re: Politics, The Election May 2015
The authorities were and still are clamping down on that sort of business and it hardly helps matters that we cannot imprison all illegals until the end of investigating their claims for asylum.Gary the Enfield wrote:Hoboh wrote:So our friends in the EU (Spanish) are busy using cheap migrant workers living in appalling conditions to undercut our farmers, great this in it all together club EU isn't it?

The Spanish and French on the other hand with large swathes of agriculture seem to be doing this en masse with little or no official intervention and it undermines the level playing surface of the so called EU.
