2015 Six Nations

Post by thebish » Mon Jan 26, 2015 11:28 am

Dropping like flies!!!

a while ago - thinking we might have a fullish squad to choose from - I was fairly confident about this six-nations...

now I am filled with foreboding for the opening game... :?

our current crock-list:

Ben Morgan (leg),
Ben Foden (knee),
Manu Tuilagi (groin),
Courtney Lawes (ankle),
Geoff Parling (knee),
Tom Wood (ankle),
Joe Launchbury (neck),
Ed Slater (knee),
Eastmond (shoulder),
Farrell (knee)

we're down to a bare fecking cupboard!!

Confidence in the side stalled after the autumn internationals but we did have injuries then as well.

Out of your list its the second row where the problem is, the first three choices being Parling, Lawes and Launchbury are out meaning we are again down to the fourth and onwards picks. I think it will be Atwood and Kruis to start, although Tom Croft who can player here as well as wing forward has been brought into the training squad.

The back row isn't as much of a problem as Vunipola and Morgan both vie for number 8. Nick Easter will probably make the bench. James Haskell will probably step in for Wood.

At stand off Farrell needs to start progressing again, Ford and Myler are more than able to deputise and the door is now open for Cipriani to make a come back.

At centre Tuilangi is the big miss but Twelvetrees and Burrell along with Joseph are still there.

At full back the current number one choice is Mike Brown, meaning that Foden being out is pretty much inconsequential.

Pleased that Corbisiero seems to be fit along with Dan Cole. Just need to find a world class level headed hooker, as if one ever exists :D

Anyway whatever happens I am looking forward to it :oyea:

Yes, saw that today.

Lancaster also borrowed my quote from yesterday ( :P ) and said "We are fortunate to have three other number 10s in the squad in what is a very competitive position". One mans misfortune is another mans gain, its up to whichever of the three of Cipriani, Myler and Ford are chosen to put in good performances. Ford started the last two tests so will probably keep the 10 jersey.

A few thought Farrell was rushed back in the autumn but that's a different debate and doesn't really matter.

Anyway, we aren't the only country to be troubled by injuries. Injuries in this sport have to be expected.

Saint Andre is could have a difficult tournament if his team fail again. Backs to the wall, their fans ready to rip them to pieces. They will do a grand slam

France have three aways (that might help them) you could make a case for them losing all three. Taffs have Ireland and us at home which could tilt it their way....

Who knows with France, that's why secretly I like watching them.

Ireland I think are getting to that too old stage, they are also suffering with injuries to half backs.

Also I really wonder at the timing of Adam Jones retirement, he will be a big loss.

I really believed that we would be winning this but that lock forward position has me doubting it.

Its a wide open tournament, roll on a week on Friday!

A lot will roll on lineout possession, I think.. we could be killed by a welsh kicking game...

Parling is out, so is Wood who is useful in the lineout being a third option. Atwood an another then.

We could always copy an all black tactic...

I was thinking more of taking Alan Wyn out.

Yep.

Lewis Moody a few years back.

Brian O'Driscoll for the Lions.

Terry Holmes also for the Lions.

They are the ones that come instantly to mind.

the all-blacks craftily take people out all over the pitch - a little step in here, as nudge there - a holding back over there - a block over there (outside the ref's peripheral vision) they are masters at it...

Now less optimistic.

We have problems at tighthead

Dan Cole apparently has an ankle injury and out for the early part of the tournament.

David Wilson has a neck injury but could still play.

David Wilson is out, however Cole might be fit but been out for 6 weeks. Big risk if he starts him. Henry Thomas has been doing well, the other possible is Brookes from Newcastle.

Garland has announced his team today as well. Hopefully over confidence.

Take it that nobody else watched the Saxons beat the Wolfhounds on Friday night just gone? Some good performances in a stop start game. Ewers from Exeter looked good.
