Wife says she fancies a horse to win the National. I tell her one usually does.. Right. Turns out the one she likes -because of the name- Shutthefrontdoor-just happens to be the favourite and also ridden by A.P.McCoy. Fancy that.
Every chance it will win, but it's the National and anything can happen. Personally, I fancy First Lieutenant, Sol, and a total 100-1 outsider, Tranquil Sea.

My money (each way) is on Cause of Causes which means he probably won't start. After all his half-sibling won the Derby.

Wife went in the bookies in town this morning whilst I had the dog. Came out and said one of the assistants had told her some interest was being shown on my long-shot, Tranquil Sea because it rained overnight. Got £1 each way on at 100-1. That would be very nice...

Your hundred to one outsider, Tranquil Sea, finished just ahead of my pick. Still we were both top eight which isn't bad. I haven't picked a winner since Ayala, somewhere in the dawn of time.

A couple went down with a wallop on the run-in and a grey must have skidded thirty yards, fortunately on the wide outside (yes, I had the TV on whilst listening to the match) Real glad none died.

The owner of the winner is my parents next door neighbour in Euxton. He flies into his property in a helicopter, landing in his rather large back garden. He was in the same school year as my Dad.

My Dad went onto be a joiner and builder, whereas Mr Hemmings went onto be a multi-millionaire.

He was our nemesis as kids. His 'staff' used to chase us off his land. One of his sons was the same age as me. I got great pleasure in our school always beating his school at football.
