This Friday
War has broken out in the Worthington household. The apple of our eye, goes away with the school on Friday 1st of July.
Party No 1 - He goes away next Friday.
Party No 2 - Oh right, this Friday coming, the 24th?
Party No 1 - No, NEXT Friday - the one after this Friday - the 1st July
Party No 2 - That's a week on Friday next Friday is this Friday, the 24th June
HELP!
There is a poll, with no room for fence sitters.

Re: This Friday
Next, as in the next Friday (24th). Anything else makes as much sense as Hoboh in a drunken conversation with Donald Trump and Nigel Farage.

This is correct. Anything else is wrong.LeverEnd wrote:This Friday 24th
Next Friday a week later.
Simples innit?
This Friday, as in, the Friday of THIS week.
Next Friday, as in, the Friday of NEXT week.

Re: This Friday
Where's the on Friday/ Week on Friday option?
Re: This Friday
As we write on Tuesday, next Friday is this Friday. On Thursday, next Friday would be the one in next week, because then this Friday (currently also next Friday) would be tomorrow. On Wednesday I'm prepared to concede there's a grey area where both this next Friday and next next Friday could be next Friday, though the latter would be accompanied by a small sideways twitch of the head.
Hope that's cleared up.
I've also just had 5 mins staring at the word "next". Looks made up, not like a real word. I need a lie down.

Re: This Friday
We had the same trouble with bi-monthly - twice a month or every two months. This introduced the word fortnightly to avoid confusion. This v. Next is covered in some detail here.. Right - time to bugger off....Worthy4England wrote:Buggroff the pair of you. Re: This Friday
It's this Friday followed by the Friday after next. Just thought I'd correct you all
May the bridges I burn light your way

Re: This Friday
^^ See, I'd have gone with this Friday and a week on Friday for those two.
