1) It's day four, 2) the athletics hasn't even started yet 3) That'll be two-time Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington.Hoboh wrote:I notice that our over hyped motley crew in Rio are living up to expectations, few podium finishes despite all the cash poured into athletics and other sports in recent years.
At least that fcukin' Rebeca Adlington's ugly mug may vanish from my Cornflake packet, never to return.
What exactly were you expecting?

Re: Th'olympics 2016
Come on Hoboh, we're only just losing out in many cases to the very best in the world. We managed bronze in diving against Japan and USA, beating off China and all sorts of bigger nations. Our gymnasts are amazing and doing little wrong, but the winners are always massive nations like Russia, America and Japan who are given a set of parallel bars and pommel horses as first birthday presents. . The rugby sevens girls beat everbody in their group but lost out because they had two players sin-binned (one very unfairly). Five against seven was never going to happen. As for the scoring in the boxing, that's just beyond me. I had three of our boxers down as winners...they lost? Novak Djokovic, the world's number one tennis player is not over happy after losing in both his doubles and singles matches. Nothing is ever certain in the olympics except the T.V presenters who insist we're odds on to win everything.Hoboh wrote:I notice that our over hyped motley crew in Rio are living up to expectations, few podium finishes despite all the cash poured into athletics and other sports in recent years. Heavily scrutinised drug use amongst athletes and apparently more stringent testing
GB have "disappointing start"
Hmm, I do wonder

All the gold medals with no public funding, obviously.KeyserSoze wrote:1) It's day four, 2) the athletics hasn't even started yet 3) That'll be two-time Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington.Hoboh wrote:I notice that our over hyped motley crew in Rio are living up to expectations, few podium finishes despite all the cash poured into athletics and other sports in recent years.

Sorry, but public funding for football?Beefheart wrote:All the gold medals with no public funding, obviously.KeyserSoze wrote:1) It's day four, 2) the athletics hasn't even started yet 3) That'll be two-time Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington.Hoboh wrote:I notice that our over hyped motley crew in Rio are living up to expectations, few podium finishes despite all the cash poured into athletics and other sports in recent years.

What exactly were you expecting?
Public funding for cricket?
Public funding for rugby?
Public funding for tennis?
Public funding for motorsport?
Etc. Etc.
Why is athletics and others deemed more worthy of public funding?
If these sports were not just about individuals they would surely have mass popularity and private funding?
You and I are paying for someone's elitism.
Re: Th'olympics 2016
I quite like the olympics.

The diving pool has turned Green, you may have noticed... They have absolutely no idea why, but they of course, insist it's perfectly safe
Some sciency type people who probably had their EU funding cut have said it'll be algae that has come abut because the PH level of the water isn't right and it's certainly NOT safe if it isn't sorted. Luckily, by the time it gets dangerous, it'll be long over.
Everything about this olympics seems a bit shambolic really

Chief Medical Officer Hoboh to the rescue!
Agree Boris, it's a mess. Was in Rio a month ago and they were nowhere near ready. They also couldn't pay the police on time and were begging for further govt handouts.
As long as some IOC feck* get their palms greased during the bid process that's all ok though.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

No. I didn't think so. tbf I have nothing against him, just the way the meeja latches on to some & passes others over I guess.
