Our foreign policy has been a shower of shite for years and years.

I remember even HoboH didn't want to get involved in Syria and Yemen. I also recall some on here stating that we HAD to

Foreign policy also undoubtedly a cause. I suspect (like religion) for some of them it's a massive motivation, for others not so much if it all. Seems ridiculous to argue it isn't a factor though.

The problem I have though is that's an amoral conclusion. Tells you nothing about the justification or validity of said foreign policy. The fact we like a beer is also clearly a factor, but it's a shit argument for stopping drinking.

Re: foreign policy, the three major Isis hotbeds are in places we've: full on invaded, partly intervened in but not fully, and not intervened militarily. I'm not sure it's a simple as some make out!

It's not at all simple. but to restrict the thinking only to the time that ISIS has "existed" and places that are involved over the last 15 years or so is also way too simplistic...

Absolutely, just examples to show that the whole spectrum of foreign policy has been applied over the past few years and none of it has stopped them.

There's no one cause for any of it, and the factors and weights are different for each and every attacker, never mind group.

Yeah, but to be fair, theres the whole mix up of paying off one group to fight another, and arming the lot.

There was a fantastic documentary on BBC2 about a year ago (so just me watching, then) that could be summed up as 'we're next'. Explained the causal roots of suicide bombing, and how 'Jihadism' started in Iran, and (as I recall) suicide bombing in Syria, and spread like wildfire around all the vacuums left by our wars, and wars-by-proxy.

Re Pru - you maybe need to google Sykes-Picot, the Balfour declaration etc etc etc, to understand this is not something confined to the last 15 years.

The history of it all is just so vast. I can recommend this a a part, because I ploughed through all 650 pages of it some while back(courtesy of W.T.W). It's a fascinating insight in to British (amongst others) foreign policy:

Imagine last century's f*ckwit Boris and his £350m bus. Only even more catastrophic.

Well, ok, it'd be difficult to be as much of a f*ckwit as Boris, and yes, one of the most important geopolitical documents of the 20th century wasn't quite the whopper of the current Tory party giving anything to anybody, especially the NHS, but it's probably in the same chapter. Or at least same bookshelf.
