Despite all the theories and arguments about its history,, I reckon this is most likely the truth of it..
The Trustees of Great Bolton adopted an elephant and castle as the town's emblem long before the incorporation of the borough in 1838. Many theories have been put forward but unfortunately, the reasons why it was chosen are not known.
