I've been to quite a few gigs over the years and thankfully I'm struggling to think of any bad ones, mainly because I only tend to go and see someoneI already like. Seen some shocking support acts though.

Not a member of this forum, but a mutual friend of mine and Bruce had, by the age of 40, been to just one gig. For a woman.

Mate, the follow-on story as to how another mutual friend of mine and Lever End's dragged this pearl out of him is one for over a pint. It's fecking glorious! :D

Way back when, high excitement as The Platters were appearing at Bolton's Empress club. For whatever reason,( maybe the smoke got in their eyes? ) they lasted two nights before getting cancelled and sent packing. Turned out to be just Great Pretenders.

I remember Pembroke halls turning down Dennis Waterman as him not being well known as a singer and just 'the other one off The Sweeney'.

A year later he was Minder and was writing the theme tune, singing the theme tune etc and was now too big for Pembroke Halls.

I would have said I can't imagine who'd want to watch Dennis Waterman in concert but it looks as though a couple off here might have done! :D

And yet Talk of the North in Eccles, Crompton Way Casino, Even The Monaco in Farnworth regularly had top stars included in the normal club entrance prices and were always packed out. Dennis Waterman wasn't amongst them mind..

How about top 5 best comedies on the tv? I’ll start with:

1. The Vicar of dibley - I’m sure this won’t be a popular choice but I love it.

2. Friends. It’s a classic really. Isn’t it?

3. Car share. A more recent programme, wish they would make more series. Some really sweet moments, as much as funny ones.

4. The Thin Blue Line. Another 90’s classic that my brother and I used to recite scenes from nearly word for word.

5. Just enjoyed Gavin and Stacey for the first time last lockdown (I know, it’s taken us a while) And In the absence of something else I’ve forgotten it takes the no 5 spot.

1. Fawltey Towers
2. The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin
3. Spitting Image (original series)
4. Phoenix Nights
5. Inside No 9. Specifically, A Quiet Night in. Which I think was the last TV comedy to have me crying laughing.

1. Blackadder
2. The Office
3. Peep Show
4. Extras
5. Fawlty Towers

I could easily have chucked several others in at 5th place.

I really enjoyed blackadder the 4th. Most poignant scene ever in a comedy at the end? But didn’t really get into the other series.

I think, for sure, on most poignant comedy scene I can recall...there a good documentary called the whole damn saga (or similar) that covers how affected the cast were by it.

Could actually make a much longer list than five, and unlike some kinds of shows especially with news based satire they're "of that time and place." My top three wouldn't make me laugh much now (maybe the odd giggle) but in that place and at that time they did. So many missing from list of 5 though...
