The Open Championship..
...start almost passed without notice in the crazy year...Phil Mickelsen last on 10 over par after Round I.

That's a little like hearing that Tranmere are 5-0 after 15 minutesTANGODANCER wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 7:59 pm...start almost passed without notice in the crazy year...Phil Mickelsen last on 10 over par after Round I.

Tommy Fleetwood to come good - I have an internet each-way fiver on him, with myself. It's the only way to gamble

Re: The Open Championship..
Still a few English heroes battling the second stage,Sullivan, Willets, Senior, Paul Casey is hovering etc, and Ian Poulter has appeared over the horizon with Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose. Hard to see Jordan Speith being beaten, he's so consistent and such a brilliant golfer. Rory is doing his brilliance and rubbish act again so far and I'm not holding much hope on him. I'm not following it closely as I want to see the two hours of highlights tonight.

Watch out for John Raam, Jordan Speith and Dustin Johnson as I'm not sure Louis Oosterhuizen can hold his lead. I may well be wrong.

Never heard of Collin Morikawa? (Me neither). Anyway,he won, and he's only 24. . I'm out of touch but didn't do badly with the rest. Ten Brits made par or better over four rounds, with Paul Casey's 5 under the best, so that's not too shabby. For once they got four days of brilliant weather.

My pretend fiver each way on Tommy Fleetwood rammed home the reminder as to why I don't bother bettingTANGODANCER wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 6:35 pmNever heard of Collin Morikawa? (Me neither). Used to looking for Woods' position within the top 10, not the bottom. Blimey.

Wow, Cameron Young could've finished 11/12 under if his putting hadn't turned to shite on the back nine.

Alas, Golf's great equaliser; two inch put, three hundred yard drive, same score.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:36 pmWow, Cameron Young could've finished 11/12 under if his putting hadn't turned to shite on the back nine.

Absolutely true, Tango. However, visit any driving range and you'll chiefly find folk attempting to knock the skin off it, usually with a club that only comes out 15 times per round.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 8:29 amAlas, Golf's great equaliser; two inch put, three hundred yard drive, same score.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:36 pmWow, Cameron Young could've finished 11/12 under if his putting hadn't turned to shite on the back nine.
Putting practice (greens in regulation gives you 36 putts per round) is generally only carried out on the practice green by players waiting for their turn to tee off on the first, and I can count the practice bunkers I've encountered on the fingers on one hand.

Fortunately for me, I never needed practice bunkers by dint of spending half my life in real ones!Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 1:52 pmAbsolutely true, Tango. His to lose now.
Good also to see both Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick (hopefully) making top 10.

Mcilroy has gone here. Got too tense. Has a habit of doing this in final rounds. He needs a big piece of luck or something just to get him going.
