McIllroy and Poulter maybe not a good idea as a pairing. 3 down after three. McIllroys form hasn't been world beating lately and may be affecting Poulter.

Edit, make that 4 down. Not impressive.

What a delightfully sporting bellow from an american spectator..."Get in the sand!"

Bet Harrington wishes Westwood hadn't sneaked in.

In fairness this has gone more or less how you'd expect. The Americans are in better form and probably better players.

Its just how it is. A European win would be a shock really.

Oh, well, perhaps we should have saved the money and not bothered going?

Rory and a few others, don't need 5 consistent rounds, they can be off in a couple and still win three points. Not too unhappy at 3-1 down, although I'd have preferred 3-1 up....:-)

Interesting selections for the fourballs, especially some of the splitting on the US side. 3-1 probs deserved so far but loads to play for. Twas the same score three years ago lest we forget (though a much more favorable course for us).

As an aside the lake michigan coast off wisconsin looks lovely.

Nobody is saying we can’t and won’t win. Just that this time USA are favourites. That’s not controversial or whatever. No idea why that has upset you. But for months USA have been favourites.

The US have 8 of the world's top 10 golfers just now, playing at home in front of a 99% home crowd. I think it's fair to say that this'll be a tough ask for Europe, as the morning exchanges suggest.

Indeed. It’s no shame to lose to this USA team at all.

Is it me or is the TV coverage of this dreadful? I know it’s Ryder cup and a lot going on but they just cut Willy nilly from shot to shot with no on screen context often. It’s not as good as normal.

US putting out of their minds. This has to revert to the mean eventually .

These are their ideal greens and they are very good. Europe needs to step up big time if they are to hang in. 6-2 would be very bad.

I accept that but putting is so random compared with the rest of the sport. I would have to think some of that 'luck' reverts eventually.

Tbf bryson hitting 417 yard drives on par fives helps. The US shouldn't let him near foursomes though. either in the green or in a tree.

Well then, it's very bad. But things can turn.

Being so far behind I'm a bit surprised Tommy Fleetwood isn't in this morning. Must be saving him for the charge.. ..

I'm not giving up yet, because golf is more of a "funny old game" than even football. One day you play like Peter Alliss, next day like Alice Peters. and you haven't a clue why. Not quite as bad in professionals, but Rory is a current example and the likes of real steady players like Justin Rose and Molinari can't get in the side.

"Who do you think you're kidding Mr Stricker, if you think Old England's done.." :oyea:

I'm sure no one will give up. That doesn't mean they're any more likely. You'd probably want to try and eek a lead going into last day against 8 of the top 10, that looks pretty unlikely given Day 1 showing.

Fingers crossed for a better day 2.

Rose isn't in the side because his performances haven't been good enough to merit his selection, not because he's world ranked 15 but we just happen to have 12 players higher ranked and he was unlucky. He, Westwood, Lawrence, Garcia all down in the 40's.

We have to win today to stand any chance. 4-4 or any American win and this one is done. I know Medinah but that’s not happening again with the strength of this American side.

I think we are capable but the course is absolutely perfect for this US team. Makes it into a pure putting contest most of the time and that just suits them on these greens.

A few ‘automatic’ picks are probably not what the Podraig would have chosen if he’d had that choice.
