Cricket World Cup
Game 1 is looking a bit bleak. Unless someone steps up, we're in for a gubbing...

An absolute dicking.

Re: Cricket World Cup
Can’t say I’m that surprised. Our 50 over side has gone significantly downhill from 2019.
Roy, Morgan, Archer no longer a part of it for various reasons.
But you look at their replacements, Malan (I know his record is good but I just don’t think you can open with someone who doesn’t get things moving the way England play)…Brook…kid who has barely touched the format….Curran/Topley decent players but feel very much ‘squad types’ for a World Cup rather than the main men.
No Stokes today either, Buttler hasn’t had much 50 over form for past year or so, neither has Moeen, Rashid is no longer hard to play in the format….
It’s a side that has naturally regressed. From 2019 we were arguably the best ODI side to ever enter a World Cup to now we are just about ok…certainly nowhere near to winning it and likely will struggle in the conditions and with the fact that everyone else is stronger whilst we’ve gone backwards.
Some of it is just nature. Some is a series of slightly odd management and selection decisions, some is that we’ve basically not really put any preparation in this time. Focus was squarely on the T20 WC last year and then the Ashes. Which is sort of fair enough.

Re: Cricket World Cup
No. We didn't. Club level, it might be just "another game of cricket." This is professional sport, not social sport. The objective for the significant money they get, is to win .
Obviously a professional team could lose and you try to bounce back. But "just lost a game" is 1950's "chocks away boys, who's making the cucumber sandwiches."
At Bolton, in Div 1, they're probably earning 2-5k per WEEK..some of the cricket squad likely to be similar. If that's you, then turning up for the Zoom call, doesn't cut it. You need to be good.

There is a big upset brewing here as Afghanistan have got off to an absolute flyer and England are all over the show.

Luckily Rashid and Afghanistans silly running are pulling this back.

If you can't hit 300 v Afghanistan which is probably at the top end with 10 ovs left, then you deserve to get beat...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 11:03 amLuckily Rashid and Afghanistans silly running are pulling this back.
Re: Cricket World Cup
We started poorly, they started well, but we've been superb in the middle overs. Rashid fantastic.
Should be enough. If we can't chase sub 300 on a flat pitch we might as well pack up.

Well I mean it’s a pretty awkward target this potentially against their spinners.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 12:29 pmIf you can't hit 300 v Afghanistan which is probably at the top end with 10 ovs left, then you deserve to get beat...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 11:03 amLuckily Rashid and Afghanistans silly running are pulling this back.
Good start and shouldn’t be too tricky but I would say this score is competitive.

For sure, you have to get what's on the board...job to do. If they can't do this one, they might need to explore their one day futures.
India knocked off this tally 2 down...even Bangldesh only lost 4. Some games you have to tell yourselves you're gonna win 'em and stop pussy-footing around could get beat.

Spare me! Afghanistan are decent, indeed. Beat by 8 wkts v India and skittled by Bangladesh. They're the cricketing equivalent of San Marino.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 1:57 pmAfghanistan are a decent side though. Re: Cricket World Cup
Not really. Not in these conditions. There are big problems with England but Afghanistan have been threatening this a while. They don’t get to play much against the top sides but their bowling is right up there. Batting less so - apart from against our hapless attack.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 3:33 pmSpare me!
