It's become a generic term for 'female partner', Monty. While typically (historically) referring to a wife, I'm assuming young Mr Crayons has yet to take the plunge! :D

To me, being old, it only meant wife. However, I assumed young Crayons meant something different based on the lack of ring on the third finger of her left hand.
