Paraguay vs England

Post by Batman » Sun Jun 04, 2006 10:09 pm

So, 5 days before the big kick off, seems like that gargantuan shithouse freak Crouch is playing due to a hattrick against truly world class opponents

The team seems set in stone now, especially with Rooney not lookin like making the starting Xi til at least the quarters, we should get through this one fairly easily enough, but Paraguay are not all that bad, and look out for Nelson Valdez up front, he has just joined Dortmund and is a real handful.

I predict a 1-0 win........

Crouch isnt that bad, we have a lot of worse options thats for sure, at least the goals might give him some confidence, i just hope he doesnt do that cringeworthy 'dance'

I'm glad Crouch is starting, everytime I've seen him in an England shirt he's impressed me.

His passing and control of the ball is excellent, and he's obviously found his scoring boots at the right time (although the opposition can be questioned).

International defenders don't seem to be able to cope with his height either. They can't deal with his presence, for instance, when Crouch came on vs Argentina, they had about 5 defenders on him, leaving Owen free to score. I reckon Owen and Crouch can complement each other's style of play extremely well, much more than Owen did with Heskey anyway.

Like keveh, everytime I have seen him in an England shirt, and to be honest, a Liverpool shirt, he has impressed me (despite that horrendous penalty).

It's too early to tell...but maybe Rooney's injury could be a blessing in disguise.....

If Santa Cruz is fit, it could be a bit difficult, but I think we can get a 2-1 win.
I'm happy with Crouch playing on his current form.

The opposition can be questioned but he can only score against the team hes playing against (obvious enough i know) and I totally agree hes a decent player and getting better with every game. his goal against hungary was a belter and Im confident he can do us a job in gerryland

paraguay are not to be underestimated, they are ranked 3rd in South America. I expect it to be a very tough game, not just physically.

sticking with my 1-1 prediction.

In qualification:

Home: 6 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss

Away: 2 wins, 2 draws, 5 losses

This seems to show they came through based on home form. As they are 'away' in Germany, they might struggle. Though of course anything can happen in a single game.

The one thing that has really impressed me recently is Beckham's skill with a dead ball. He might not have much ability as a winger (even less so than he used to) but that right peg of his is absolutely honed to perfection.

Paraguay are suspect at the back; they'll concede careless free kicks around the box. I can see both centre-backs on the scoresheet, with headers from Beckham's crosses.

I predict 3 - 1 England. Get the ball wide to Joe Cole, who will dive under the slightest touch, and get Becks to put the ball in the right areas.

I'll look for Lampard and Gerrard taking turns at bursting forward to create/score 3-0 England

i'm happy with crouch's contributions but for the record Davies is still better in the air - for a big fella he can't judge where a ball is going to land at all

don't think our super kev would've dinked a penalty like that either...
